AAC Members Build For The Future--(AAC Meetings) USA Today
There is nothing dramatic about the agenda for this year’s American Athletics Conference meetings; mostly the standard sampling of budget talk, scheduling models and NCAA minutiae. The most significant thing that will emerge from the league gathering is formalizing a long-term, strategic plan for the league that commissioner Mike Aresco said is “going to be bold.”

Didn't add this in my story but Mike Aresco said the American had 15% increase in revenue this year. Every little bit helps.

I wish Wolken would have talked a bit more about the "bold" strategic plan.

No one here hates NIU. I just think the consensus opinion of the board is that NIU's attendance woes/fan base size are underwhelming and that being on the outer reaches of the Chicago market isn't quite enough to overcome that. When the stadium expansion is done and NIU starts consistently drawing 20-25k, I would be a lot more enthusiastic about NIU as an expansion candidate.

Yeah hopefully some of that comes out after the meetings.

A fair assessment. The renovations are waiting on the Illinois budget, whenever that gets resolved

I agree with this. I certainly have no hate for NIU and my thinking is along these lines as well, if we ever need to replace anyone. So the best thing for NIU is to win and grow the attendance numbers.

RE: AAC Members Build For The Future--(AAC Meetings) USA Today
"The AAC isn’t in the “Power Five,” but it has been a relative success story. In everything from what schools pay their football coaches, to number of Power Five opponents they’ve beaten to NCAA tournament bids (and UConn championships) in basketball, the AAC has separated itself from the Mountain West, Conference USA, the Sun Belt and the Mid-American Conference. A “Power Five and a Half,” if you will."

There has been a noticeable decrease in trolls from other conferences pounding their chests around here...

And a notable change in the conference perception by the pundits. You can see it reflected in the way the conference is discussed in media reporting. Its not dismissed as just another G5 conference. Its seems to be building its own niche---certainly not a P5, but a group of schools that that are looking a little too shiny to just lump in with the rest of the non-power conferences.
