Chris Berman retiring
ESPN continues to shed overhead. Berman will retire next year after the NFL season.

Well he has been there since the start and I'm sure its his decision and not ESPN's.

He can barely get through a sentence now without gasping for air. Sad, but a necessary move for him

Not his choice, according to his agent.

Yeah, he went from being one of my favorites in the late 80's to impossible to listen too.

RE: Chris Berman retiring
I have the fond memory of Berman walking up to me at McCarren Airport and him saying "I've been looking for you."

True and here's the backstory.

I was on the tram heading to my gate and he was standing next to me. I said something about "Why didn't you stop by when you were in the neighborhood?" to which he responded "Huh?" I then explained that I was a neighbor of Jim Kelly and knew had had been to Kelly's house. We had a quick banter, the tram arrived at the gates and I said, "Well no time for an autograph." And we departed.

A bit later, I was sitting at my gate when he walked up and joined me, gave me the autograph and we talked about the Bills for about 20 minutes.

Verne Lundquist is leaving the SEC CBS game of the week telecasts as well. I guess CBS must be hurting huh! (Sarcasm intended for those claiming the WWL is losing it.)

I've enjoyed Bermam on ESPN but you can tell he's on his last legs and he and Tom Jackson on what passes for NFL Primetime have lost their edge. Also, I think ESPN having him do so many NFL shows has kind of worn him down.

You know, I'd wonder if the NFLN would pick him up?

LOL, you edited it and it still isn't what you intended.

That sounds stranger than when I was sitting directly in front of Tony Dungy in an Indianapolis church and didn't realize it.

Is he rumblin', stumblin', and tumblin' through his sentences?

I bet he's struggling to make those corny puns he's famous for, like Jay Fiedler-on-the-Roof. Tradition!

I know you were just being sarcastic, but I am one of the few (I think) who still enjoys his call. I like the "big game voices," and guys like him and Brent Musberger, who may have lost a step, still provide the big game voice. Marv Alert on TNT as well.
