A Very Good Year
While I always root for Clemson in all of the 17 sports that it sponsors (men's and women's), I personally really only follow 5 of the men's sports: football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and golf (in order of preference). In these 5 sports that matter most to me, this (2015-2016) was a very good year for Clemson. Football finished as ACC champs and national runner up. Basketball was about normal for Clemson - a fairly mediocre year with no NCAA or NIT bid. Baseball finished as ACC champs and a #7 national seed - the end result is yet to be determined. Soccer finished as the national runner up. Golf finished as ACC champs and 14th nationally (just missing the final cut for NCAA play). I am excited about the future for Football, Soccer, and Baseball as they all have excellent coaches. Golf has a really great coach but he is toward the end of his career - it will be interesting to see who his replacement will be when that time comes. The basketball coach is an enigma - he is well liked and respected but has not had great results. He should have his best team next year and has new and/or newly renovated facilities so it will be interesting to see how he does over the next couple of years.
And ...... kudos to the rest of the ACC. I think that overall, the ACC had one of it's best years from top to bottom in all of the major sports and the olympic sports.

Also good in terms of revenue. FSU even got an at-large New Year's 6 bowl bid, making it two teams in a major bowl for the third straight year. 2013 Orange, 2014 Orange, and 2015 Peach. Only the middle one was contractually obligated.

Kind of disappointing year IMO for Louisville. The mainly due though to not being eligible for the NCAA Basketball tournament. The women's team after only finishing with one loss in the ACC flamed out in the second Rd. Football did win it's bowl game against an SEC team. Softball went 0-2 in the NCAA's. Baseball though is the overall 2 national seed so we could do something big here

Uh...you realize most schools would kill for that kind of athletic year right...

Darryl Gross was a very good AD. He is mostly responsible for the current success that SU is enjoying. Never dreamed that SU would be doing this well in the ACC. Love him or hate him he was very effective, The only thing he whiffed on was hiring Greg Robinson. Also disliked the neutral site games in NYC and retiring #44. I still think Scott Shafer would have been better if given more time even though I think he would have only been mediocre. Happy to have Babers though, make no mistake about that.

RE: A Very Good Year
It seems since about 2012, the ACC has majorly upgraded across the board in athletics.
Baseball - arguably best in the country, no worse than 2nd, and deep.
Basketball - best in the country, record setting NCAA performances
Football - Elite Teams (FSU and Clemson), Orange Bowl win by GT. Major improvement from Duke, UNC and strong recent hires plus addition of LOuisville.
In 3 years the ACC more than doubled its Big 6 bowl wins (5) from the previous 15 BCS bowl wins. (2-13)
Olympic Sports - Top Notch.
Athletically the ACC is in the best position possibly it has ever been.
I find hard to believe there are still those that say the ACC isn't invested conference wide to being better athletically.
It wasn't going to happen overnight, but the progress is unmistakable.

I think that aside from Swofford's inability to negotiate contracts, this conference is amazing.

The ACC is still here.
Corrigan started and Swofford continues to build the ACC into the premiere conference in the USA.
The 8 team ACC never had a team as an automatic qualifier for a major bowl. Changes don't occur all at once and getting multiple institutions to get on the same page (when there is a lot of money to be invested) is not an easy task.
The growth of the ACC has been slow and steady (too slow for some detractors around here) but it has been a group effort by all of the member institutions. I think history will show that the ACC's contracts were the best available at that time, but that they are continuing to improve as the league grows.

Gross was very influential getting The ACC to consider Louisville for membership. For that we are very grateful.

Hail cuseroc and nzm!
Agree on TGD. Unfortunately that appears not to be the majority opinion over on syracusefan.com. Don't know why Syverud just didn't re-hire TGD as AD when Coyle bolted for Minnesota. Probably pride I guess.
Cheers,
Neil

Agree. The main emphasis needs to be football now, where there has been progress, but not enough. Need more programs to be more often than not a threat to be Top 25 level year in and year out. Here's hoping Miami, VT, Louisville, and SU join in the fun with FSU and Clemson.
Cheers,
Neil
