OT: Jim Grobe takes over at Baylor...
Grobe, a native of Huntington, West Virginia, coached at Ohio from 1995 to 2000 and Wake Forest from 2001 to 2013. He had a 77-82 record in 13 seasons with the Demon Deacons and his teams played in five bowl games. In 2006, Grobe guided Wake Forest to an 11-3 record and an unlikely ACC championship.

This will ensure Baylor will be no more than halfway mediocre.

This ensures Baylor will clean up their program. That alone is worth some respect in my book, so many other schools would have made another slimeball hire.

Winning at Wake Forest is no easy task. He had some good years at Wake Forest. Baylor won't be the same, but not terrible.

they just became the next U of miami....not sure any 'cleaning up' is realistic with the money in tejas coupled with p5 money....

Anyone who can take Wake freakin' Forest to an ACC championship and to the Orange Bowl can coach. I expect Miami, and Baylor, to both field excellent teams this year. We have a real catch with Coach Richt. And Baylor will be fortunate to have Grobe.

Not sure what that means. Canes this year will have real leadership with Richt - AG was notably soft when it came to responsibility. Money is important, sure, but it goes in tandem with both academics and leadership... See Vandy's football program as an example of what direction to avoid. BTW what does "4.5k private school of thugs" mean, more or less? Very interested lol. Don't mean to stir the pot but I have never heard that one before.

Want to know what's a lot more deadly than making a mistake when you're driving a car?

Overcorrection for mistakes.

Glad that Baylor isn't my team. Good luck trying to win with a pedestrian offense when the marquee programs in the Big 12 have more talent than you do.

Wake was not competitive before Grobe or after him. He is also a class act. He's exactly the type of person you want to come in after a debacle like this. Baylor has a long way to go to turn around public perception, but this is a tiny first step.

U know what 'that' means.....

when a 30/30 plays in the playground not once, but twice, it's not hard to read between those lines....

I'm being nice saying that this has become today's fashionable form of fascism....

when I was in hs, the U was nothing but a blip on anyone's radar (those looking at private schools as an option for furthering education)

fast forward, and look how their soul has been replaced by the almighty....

look for notre dame and byu to eventually cave.....

get it yet?

I believe he's referring to the fact that some believe that Tulane is known as an HJCU. I'm not sure of that but I've heard it referenced before. We've never been in a conference with Tulane so I can't really speak to the student body makeup. I can share what I've learned on this board though.

yeah....that's it....sigh....

if you're all comfy with how that program become something when it was nothing, then okay....keep that warm fuzzy on...

my comments have zero to do with race.....

it's how money and ego is continuing to ruin something I once held very dear due to the heart as laid out on the field coupled with how coaches were once more than hired demi-gods that protect and embody everything that is wrong with collegiate athletics today....

it's about how certain programs evolved while being nothing more than a blip on the radar back in the '70s....schellenberger changed the game for those schools....smu was too blatant with it, and tulane...well, they're still tulane wishing they never left the sec...

however, keep piling on with biased status quo labeling all as mississippi rednecks.....the free state of jones and roots ought to keep you stirred up for awhile....go have fun with that...those should make you feel better....

Oh ok! Money and ego in collegiate athletics justify calling a university Jewlane instead of Tulane (it rhymes therefore it's clever) because money and ego equal those of the Jewish belief. Cool

I had read the term a few times on here or elsewhere. Not sure if its a term that jewish students use themselves. Here's a link to a site listing colleges that are most welcoming to those of the Jewish faith. Tulane is in the top ten in terms of student population makeup (32%). Nothing wrong with that.
