http://www.ncaa.com/news/baseball/articl...mpionships

No West Coast or Big Ten hosts -- Texas Tech is the farthest West, and Louisville is the nortehernmost host -- and Aaron Fitt's "dissent" (he thought USM should host over Vanderbilt) did not prevail.

States & number of regional hosts:

Florida - 3
Texas - 3
Louisiana - 2
Mississippi - 2
South Carolina - 2
Kentucky - 1
North Carolina - 1
Tennessee - 1
Virginia - 1

Conference breakdown:

SEC -- 7 (Florida, LSU, Mississippi St., Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt)
ACC -- 6 (Clemson, Florida St, Louisville, Miami (FL), North Carolina St. and Virginia)
Big 12 -- 2 (TCU and Texas Tech)
Sun Belt - 1 (UL Lafayette)

RE: NCAA D-I baseball regional hosts
No conference had ever had more than five regional hosts before this season, and both the SEC and ACC top that this year.

Assuming the hosts all get national seeds, they'll join the SEC in 2004 (six) as the only conference with a half dozen regional 1 seeds.

And it snaps a 20-year streak with at least one Pac-12 team hosting.

Strange year, leading into the SEC-ACC challenge in the Supers if seedings hold (since 1 seeds from the same conference can't be paired in that round).

Won't be Tech. Everyone has to fly there and we've got 4 sites within driving distance.

I want A&M also.

I know they're hot, but I don't think they can beat Duplantier in a game 2 setting. That's assuming we go with Fox in game 1, since Duplantier pitched today.

Plus the pressure will be on A&M as a host, we have somewhat of a rivalry/history with them, and we already beat them once this year.

I think they got their mojo back since that week.

Sorry to see Southern Miss didn't get a regional. I guess not putting 3 in MS was more important than the very good resume arguments Fitt made for USM.

Lots of disappointed teams.
I think S. Miss. got hosed on the no-host deal.

USM was certainly deserving, but their resume paled to TCU in almost every way. I'm not convinced either UVA or NC State deserved it. I think the ACC was overrated vis-a-vis the SEC, and IMO they did not deserve 6 host sites.

It's a strange year in that there are only 3 - 4 non-hosting Texas schools in the tourney. It means the myriad of West Coast teams (CSF, UCSB, likely 4 Pac-12 teams) are going to be traveling to the 3 Texas sites.

I still think we're going to Lubbock.

No real Northern hosts either (unless you count Louisville).

The West Coast teams will probably get sent to some of the Texas regionals at least - it's not like they can fly all of them to SEC or ACC country. It wouldn't shock me if we end up as a 2 seed in one of those ACC or SEC regionals (although I guess if it's LSU that's not a big shocker either).

Aside from Tech (national seed), A&M (national seed) and TCU (host), are Rice, DBU and Sam the only other Texas schools in the dance?

Is Lubbock within the NCAA driving distance? It's at least an 8 hour drive from campus to campus, assuming no traffic getting out of Houston.

Let's not forget that Del Conte is on the Selection Committee. The Aggies are going to be either the #1 or #2 national seed, and I just cannot see them sending them one of the highest ranked #2 seeds (which we will be).

Would also be interesting to get sent to Acadiana to avenge last year's loss to the Rajun Cajuns.

If I'm a betting man, I've got us going to TCU.

You think Del Conte will want that? Again, I think the fact that we've already played each other twice this year makes TCU a long shot.

Arizona to Tech as the 2 seed. UC-Santa Barbara to A&M as 2 seed and Dallas Baptist to TCU as 2 seed (although it seems like they've matched those two teams up quite a bit the past few years). Tulane (or USM) to LSU as the 2 seed and we'll be the 2 seed at ULL.

Possible, but unlikely since LaTech is the likely #3 seed at ULL, and you can't place more than one team from the same conference in any regional. From a preference perspective, we should hope we avoid elite pitching teams as ULL.

I would guess the team to compare us with was ULL. That's who were we likely fighting for a bid. If that's the case, right decision was made. They had us beaten just slightly in every category.

It wasn't so much State and Ole Miss. ULL and LSU are closer to Hattiesburg. If you put all of those together, though, that's four host sites all bunched up pretty close. The NCAA can cheaply bus us to any of those sites. No disrespect to the Cajuns but I would be thrilled to go to Lafayette.

I wonder if the weather will effect the NCAA's decisions at all. College Station in particular might get more rain this week. Obviously they'll still hosting but maybe they do decide they need to keep that region local. Of course I'm not even sure if we can bus there if that area gets another 3-5 inches of rain (or more) thru Friday.

D1's final projection has us at TCU as the 2 seed, with Utah as the 3 seed
