10 min radio interview with author of uniform survey plus original article/graphs
I think the focus/point of new/improved uniforms is mostly for those 110 schools not named Bama, USC, Michigan, Penn State, etc...as those historical programs can probably secure Top 20 recruiting classes most years if their uniforms were pink.

Then you have the influence of Under Armour, Nike, etc...that view uniforms as branding opportunities...not only for the school but also for the manufacturer.

Thought it was interesting in the below rating interview where the author noted that the 16-17 yr old HS recruits:

43% of the respondents favored modern uniforms
Only 5% of the respondents favored classic uniforms

Here's the original article and a 10 min interview with writer/author from Six Previews on how they went about their survey and some of their results:

The manufacturers want sales at retail, advertisement on the field as "cheap" publicity, ect... I think college is becoming more like the NHL in a way where you have the traditional road/home jersey in "classic" mode and your 3rd/alt jersey is where you bring out the style. The NFL is kind of but not really doing it with some teams offering that 3rd jersey like the Panthers and their blue one. The NBA and Adidas really started to bring out the 3rd/alt and tshirt jerseis for the same purpose.

Some classics though are too plain and have no style. Some new stuff is way to crazy and busy and actually doesn't look good. Oregon, with the backing of Nike has been financially able to put out all those designs because Phil Knight. Most other universities don't have that kind of resource to fund that many uniform looks.

UCF was stuck with a terrible Nike contract where UCF's former AD just rubber stamped what Nike wanted while he was walking out the door to take Oregon State job (HUGE Nike school too).

New UCF Coach Scott Frost was able to use his great relationship with Nike's Phil Knight that opened up their top designers to UCF plus is giving UCF new custom uniforms that aren't even stated or required in their current contract.

UCF doesn't have much money but they had the next best thing, coach who is a very close friend of Nike founder.

Guess you never bothered to watch or read what Phil Knight is actually doing for UCF...as he actually sent one of Nike's top designers to UCF which helped them create the first versions of multiple new uniform options/designs for UCF (i.e. not "cookie cutter stuff like they shipped ECU".)

New uniform designs and then production normally take 10-12 months but Nike told UCF they can do these first versions in 6 months or less as a favor to Coach Frost/UCF...so they should be delivered by late July - Mid August).
