Arizona Bowl

I'd much rather have 6 with backups or opportunities to fill Power 5 bowls than 7.

Is this the one that ended up being MWC vs MWC last year?

This is very good. We need less bowl games like the AZ bowl.

About 10 bowl games need to be completely dropped (maybe even 15). Then restore more p5 vs g5 match ups. At least make them a real reward by making the games somewhat meaningful again. Who really cares about playing one more SBC, MWC or MAC team anyway?

Funny, I grew up thinking the Liberty Bowl game was a turkey. Now I'd salivate over a CUSA bowl matchup with even a middling SEC team every single year. They sure kicked Rice's a$$ all over the place and made us look very bad:
Mississippi State routs Rice in Liberty Bowl 44-7

...and that was in Rice's high-water, historic and unprecedented success season of 2013. Marshall would have at least made it a game with Miss State. It was total embarrassment for the school and the Conference, and only confirmed the Liberty Bowl needed to dump CUSA.

I would bet that a decent amount of fans from any Texas school would go and LT as well. If NMSU gets bowl eligible this year, they have a good destination as does Texas St.

It was also televised by ASN last year and most of us here are familiar with that. Better than staying home and watching some other school enjoy participating.

Yeah, we should all just stay home instead of playing bowl games when eligible. Makes sense to me. P5 vs P5 is now the norm. Does anyone know of a way to force a change in that?

If the alternative is sitting at home?

I'm not thrilled about the Sun Belt getting the Arizona Bowl either, but Idaho looks like they might get 6 wins this year, and it gives them a game to go to, rather than being guaranteed to be stuck at home.

By the time the SBC becomes a 10 team league in 2018, that bowl will be dead anyway.

I know what the backup tie ins say on that bowl, but you can be guaranteed if an extra P5 team is available, there will be tremendous pressure exerted on the I Bowl to pick them over a CUSA or AAC team. Money talks.

I live here. I have no doubt they want P5 vs. P5 every year. But they've only been able to get it about half of the time the past 12 years. It's a good bowl to have a secondary contract with...especially with the proximity of Tech, USM, Rice, UNT.
