Other C-USA tournament games
Charlotte-FAU has started. Leadoff single for the 49ers.

(URL link to GameTracker: http://www.conferenceusa.com/gametracker...rtschool=& )

Bases loaded with only 1 out.

Charlotte is off to a 3-0 start in T1. (Two singles, two walks and a throwing error.)

FAU comes back quickly, too, getting runners at second and third with no outs by a single and E6 (throwing) for the first two batters.

Update: 4-4 after three innings.

And FAU killed Fox two weeks ago-- his lone poor outing in the past 2 months. Also, sounds like FAU gambled and used their #4 or #5 starter in this one. Can anyone verify?

Sounds like the late game will be really late. Good thing we got our game out of the way early.

Sounds like an opportunity for redemption!

If they did pitch their #4 or 5 guy, then that seems good for us as we crushed their #1 a couple weekends ago.

Today, FAU used:

Labsan (3 innings - 4 runs (3 earned), 3 hits, 3 walks, no Ks),
Rhodes (5 innings - 1 run (earned), 2 hits, no walks, 3 Ks), and
Ragdale (1 inning) - 0 runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, no Ks.

From his May 13 preview of our series with FAU, here's Walt's assessment of the Other Owls' pitching staff at that time:

Walt Wrote:Arguably, the key to FAU's success this year has been the emergence of a multi-armed bullpen, which has been their firewall. Starters rarely go more than 5 - 6 innings even when pitching well, and their coach will frequently use 3 - 4 relievers to close out a game (each going just one inning) to keep opposing batters from getting too comfortable with any one pitcher and get the most favorable righty-lefty matchup. Anchored by their stud, one-inning closer (Ragsdale, who's 13 saves currently ranks 4th in the nation), 6 different relievers have pitched 20+ innings and have posted ERAs under 3.00. A seventh reliever just missed that cut after getting rocked in this week's start vs. Ohio State. Their bullpen has recorded almost half (15) of FAU's 33 wins on the season and, going back to last year, the team has won 42 consecutive games when leading after the 7th inning. So far this year, FAU is 15-0 when leading after the 6th inning. Consequently, if we hope to have a successful weekend it is imperative that our offense put up runs early...

Marc Stewart (So, RHP): 12 starts, 5-0, 63.2 IP, 3.39 ERA, .236 BAA, 27 BBs, 5 HBP, 37 Ks
Brandon Rhodes (Sr, LHP): 12 starts, 6-3, 74.0 IP, 4.50 ERA, .273 BAA, 13 BBs, 38 Ks
Sean Labsan (Jr, LHP): 9 starts, 5-1, 44.0 IP, 1.43 ERA, .222 BAA, 15 BBs, 10 WPs, 39 Ks
David McKay (RS So, RHP): 10 starts, 2-4, 51.0 IP, 3.35 ERA, .205 BAA, 15 BBs, 52 Ks

Cameron Ragsdale (Jr, RHP): 19 app, 13 saves, 21.0 IP, 0.86 ERA, .149 BAA, 7 BBs, 20 Ks
Colyn O'Connell (Jr, RHP): 19 app, 2-0, 22.2 IP, 1.59 ERA, .256 BAA, 7 BBs, 16 Ks
Nick Swan (Fr, LHP): 16 app, 2 starts, 3-0, 31.1 IP, 2.59 ERA, .252 BAA, 9 BBs, 20 Ks
Robbie Coursel (Sr, RHP): 15 app, 1 start, 4-3, 30.2 IP, 2.93 ERA, .226 BAA, 8 BBs, 8 HBPs, 29 Ks
Devon Carr (RS Sr, LHP): 27 app, 4-1, 26.1 IP, 2.73 ERA, .216 BAA, 8 BBs, 22 Ks
Alex House (So, RHP): 19 app, 1-1, 1 save, 30.1 IP, 2.97 ERA, .252 BAA, 10 BBs, 26 Ks

FAU clearly has the bullpen edge over us-- and by a factor of 5 (with Otto and Myers now unavailable tomorrow).

Otto really hasn't been better than anyone else lately (with the exception of the fifteen inning game). I think Kravetz has generally been our best reliever.

USM wins by 10 run rule after 6 1/2 innings. FIU and Marshall are finally under way. They have an excellent chance of playing past midnight. 1-0 FIU after a half inning.

Playing the first game of the day is a blessing -- we should welcome that every time.

Except, perhaps, on Day 2 of the C-USA tourney, then that first game is a losers'-bracket elimination game.
