Also looks like C-USA.TV domain was secured by CUSA back in April. Could tie in to Campus Insiders.

WKU AD talking out of both sides of his mouth. In one sentance he says he think other G5 contracts will go down as they expire but then says CUSA signed a short term deal because he is optimistic the market will turn in the next 18 months.

Well which is it? If the market is bad and the G5 contracts will only fall, then guess who's contract is up next? CUSA's. So is he predicting it will fall further in 18 months? And if it is not, and the market is turning on the upside, then why would he think the AAC or MWC's contract will fall thereafter?

He cant make his mind up.

Yeah, he definitely contradicts himself there a bit.

I can see the MWC's contract maybe falling in the future, but unless the AAC has defections, I see their's at the very least staying the same, but probably increasing a bit. They had quality viewing numbers last season. That was probably an exceptional season for them in terms of performance that won't be replicated annually, but they still have the largest fanbases among G5 conferences as a whole.

The MAC doesn't have to worry about their contract for a decade. The SBC can't really go anywhere but up.

Won't CUSA be the first G5 to renegotiate a contract AGAIN in 2018?

True, that! If this 9M per year is accurate, there is no reason at all to believe the SBC now doesn't have a much better chance of a bigger payday in the not to distant future.

To those who are thumbing their noses at the Belt, nothing's changed as far as that "any SBC school would JUMP if selected" garbage goes. With maybe one or two exceptions, it would take a full evaluation including but not limited to a thorough CBA before agreeing to such a move. It would still take any SBC member more than a decade to be made whole after the millions of dollars of entry/exit fees.

In my opinion, this is great news for ALL G5's and congrats to CUSA. 04-cheers

I think what Todd is saying ...

CUSA got what he considers rock bottom dollar value for this contract and while he expect to see the trend of dropping dollars for all G5...

CUSA can still get their TV contract increased by a few million in a couple years. There's a lot larger gap between the AAC and MWC than the amount of this CUSA contract and where it could be in two years.

So if you are starting at the bottom you still have room to move up some. While he believes those two conferences will be starting from the top and probably work down a few dollars.

C-USA has 2 too many schools as it is.... We aren't looking at adding any from the Belt. The Big12 is bringing back their championship game and breaking up into divisions. C-USA won't be losing any teams to the AAC, but even if we did, C-USA still wouldn't expand.

The Sun Belt should be able to sign a new deal for more money then they are currently getting, but I fail to see how our new deal is good news for the Belt or any other G5 conference going forward. I think each conference will be evaluated individually and get their deals based on that information. Just too many factors (viewership, markets, fan base,...). I know the deal was really bad when North Texas was in the Belt. Something like $200,000 a year for the entire conference. How much is the Sun Belt's current deal worth annually? And when does it expire?

The SBC should get more than the $100k per school it gets now if for no other reason than they are willing to play some Tuesday and Wednesday night games. If espn wants those games to continue, the SBC should demand more money. I believe their current contract ends with the 2019-20 school year.

C-USA still needs to improve on the field and court, my school too, in order to see an increase in tv revenue in 2018. If good seasons and good ratings are had by more than a couple of schools, things could get a lot better and maybe up to MWC levels of $1.5 million per school per yr. We have to impress our tv partners and make money for them.

The SBC will get more money because they are starting a championship game. The championship game is the most valuable single game in any TV package.

I will be glad when the bubble pops at the top...not for all of us fighting over the crumbs. A strong G5 is good for all of us as long as CUSA does it's part.

it does no one in a G5 conference any good when dollars drop

C-USA will make $9 mil per year from TV, down from $14 mil. Stewart: "It’s not what it was financially but it’s still a strong package."

9 million is not a cut, it's actually an increase. The contract was cut from 14 to 7 million when schools left. So wouldn't this actually be an increase from the current contract?

Yes, to some extent that seems to diminish the argument that falling media revenue leads to reduced conference payouts since Cusa got a $2 million dollar raise.

Obviously, if Espn and other sports media were making money hand over fist, the payout might have been more, but it's still an increase.

Had not heard that the SBC was starting a championship game. It would give them a good opportunity for more exposure and money and now that 10 school conferences can have one, why not do it.

Last thing I remember reading about a SBC championship was Arkansas State AD not wanting any part of that.

Looks like NMSU at UTEP will be the first game on BeIn. A 3:30pm kickoff in El Paso on Sept 3rd should be uncomfortably warm for the fans and players.

Rename Bein Sports to FIU Sports for football anyways, who is calling the games for Bein Sports or is at a simulcast or someone in a studio?... remember the TV booth is a tent...I guess we now finally see a "market" in TV at play...
