Really PJ?
There are a lot of things I like about coach Fleck, but he lost me with this one. Having Ray Rice speak to your football team? What was the message? Don't get caught on camera so you will have to live with the consequences?

He couldn't find someone more inspiring? Maybe Ray Carruth is getting out soon. Or OJ could skype from jail.

What a stupid idea.

What sinks in more?

Telling a young man not to lose his temper or letting them hear from a man who lost his temper and ruined his life?

I for one applaud PJ for bringing in such a diverse speaker. For Rice to share some of his life's worst choices and consequences had a huge impact on our team.I also applaud Rice for sharing and trying to make amends for it. If any of you know any of the team members may I suggest you ask them, how was the talk by Rice? Sometimes you need to look a little deeper. It's always amazing what you find. RTB

RE: Really PJ?
The most successful speakers are the ones who overcame adversity. While I like to see males, who beat women, get their rear-end beat everyday of the week and twice on Sundays, I also believe everyone, except those who commit crimes against children deserve a second chance. Now Ray Rice hasn't been given a second chance at football, but ye he has been given a second chance at life and because the media only tells us only what they want to tell us, they are not going to tell us what he has done to overcome his demon. We do not know the kind of counseling he has had to go through and joint counseling he and his new wife had to go through.

If he doesn't believe what he is speaking then I would have a problem with this, but we don't know what he is saying and we don't know if he believes in what he is saying. I'm going to assume that Coach Fleck, as the leader of this football team, knows what he is doing and if what Ray Rice is saying doesn't go in the direction the boat is being rowed in the Coach Fleck wouldn't let him speak.

The difference between most of the people listed earlier in this thread and Ray Rice is they have or are currently serving time behind bars. Ray Lewis did not and is not serving time behind bars. All I can really say is, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone..."

Crack addiction is a demon. Restraining from punching your wife in the face is not.

Ray Lewis interfered with an active murder investigation and thus beat a murder rap. Poor analogy.

RE: Really PJ?
Real talk from an ex NFL player. A formerly GREAT player whose career ended due to domestic violence.

I would rate that a good get as a speaker to young men who want to play in the NFL.

I agree. Decisions, good and/or bad, in one's life determines where an individual will end up.

Good lesson.

RE: Really PJ?
Reminds me of a student I once had.

His granny was a reformed drug addict, who was now a drug counselor. She talked about it at every opportunity. She appeared to be quite the role model.

Well, her grandson was regularly in trouble. I had him stay after school for a detention and to catch up on his work. I walked him home and he invited me in to tell his grandma he had turned it around.

I walk in and there's a dozen people smoking weed, Granny the drug counselor included. She did talk a good game........

If you or I screw up we have to weather it with time to recoup our reputation. Ray wants to do the Granny the drug counselor routine, so he can quickly show he's learned and can get back to making the high dollar.

I don't have a problem with people preaching how to avoid "their pitfalls." But I think they need to hit rock bottom and have CLEARLY demonstrated that they have reformed, before telling others how to conduct themselves.

I thought Rice had been reinstated by NFL, but nobody would sign him?

Did we get used?
