Their judicial integrity took a gigantic blow with their handling of the Miami (Shapiro) investigation. They may have had justifiable reason to level the death penalty on Penn State a few years ago, and whether you agree with that or not, the NCAA went so far as to lighten the original penalties a year or two after that investigation. It's why so many people are convinced that North Carolina will largely skate by on its academic investigation and why they'll probably not really do much against Ole Miss.
From what we know so far, I say the death penalty may be warranted against Baylor. But I think that even if the NCAA was still handing out harsh penalties, we have seen the last of the death penalty anyway.
Agree. NCAA itself might actually get the death penalty if they did. When was the last one? Death penalty..just wondering. Maybe somebody already said.

In DI, Southern Methodist football, 1987.
There have been one or two at the DII and DIII levels about ten years ago, but neither for a football or basketball program.
Western Kentucky self-instituted a voluntary death penalty on its swimming/diving programs last year, but it will be reinstated either this year or the next.

Should get death penalty for sure. Sadly the NCAA will probably turn a blind eye because no "rules" were broken....only laws.

RE: NTR Art Briles fired
You do have to convert or they will shun you...just sayin.
D1 athlete got schollie to BYU. For two years they were 'o so nice and 'o so friendly'. Then, one afternoon, one of his 'friends' took him down into the basement of a dark room where he stood alone. He was asked to convert... but said 'No'. So they shunned him for the next two years.
No biggie. He just hung out with the Samoans who had also been given schollies but hadn't accepted the invitation.
True Story.

So fire Mike Norvell and bring in Art Briles? Yeah, that would make sense...
Sorry to hurt your feelings. But I would love it. Nothing against Norvell.....Briles knows football and gets his message across to the players. Period. And yeah....probably ONLY decent message board topic right now. Disagree if you please. But we WOULD win.
And please don't be confused into thinking 1 old man of a coach can control 50+ 18-22 y/o boys. Thank God my career isn't dependent on 18-22 y/o boys who have likely never been disciplined due to their increased talent level at previous levels---and during their first years out from mommy and daddy no less. Bring him in, hire administration responsible for team behavior. Control what you can control and FREGGIN WIN.
One of the stupidest ideas I've ever seen expressed on this board - and that is saying something!

NTR Art Briles fired
This whole thing is wrong on every level. Everyone involved should not have a job.
Baylor sold their soul many years ago for athletics.
It's freaking Baylor.

I suspect Tulsa's coach will be on their radar but you wonder if he knew any of this was going on?

Correct...which is basically the entire football coaching staff, AD, Assoc AD's, President, etc...
What's sad is you have idiots like ESPN's Mike Golic who went on and on and on saying how the "kids" on the team shouldn't be punished and how the entire coaching staff can't be fired because summer workouts and eventually start of late July/early August practices start.
He's saying how they should be let go NEXT YEAR.
#unreal...especially when Briles' own son is the Offensive Coordinator and his son-in-law is also on his staff.
From the crooked police depts that hid some of the investigations to the Univ hiding all that info and then threatening women who dared speak of their rapes...entire program should be swept out.

Fire the staff and let the players transfer without having to sit out a year. They have all summer to find a new school, enroll and get going...

Baylor cannot consistently be better than Texas. Art should know this.
Kenneth Starr getting fired, too.
Don't think that doesn't play into it
Meanwhile at Tennessee ...........

I completely agree but doubt that happens. It's big business so they will fire president, athletic director, and head coach to appease everyone then probably be business as usual. I got in debate with some BYU fans about their culture and covering up with same situation. At BYU they find a way to expel the females. They are like most fans in defending the school just because of sports.
Memphis had the Hunt situation, Baylor now, BYU, UT, Louisville, and Penn State just to name a few situations that occurred over the past 10 years in college athletics. I love college sports but this is becoming ridiculous. As a farther with three girls in college now I really worry about the culture of college athletics. I can't image what the parents of young ladies at these schools are going through.

RE: NTR Art Briles fired
I have to ask a question I haven't heard an answer to regarding Baylor football.
Good for them for firing the football coach.
Why is it that Kenneth Star still gets to keep a job at the university?
He dogged Clinton for a sexual scandal...when a scandal that occurred on his campus made Bill's pale in comparison.
When Missouri students started making waves...their university president resigned for imagined slights against the students.
Why isn't Starr being held to the same standard?
