I'm confused. What do the words below mean? I've never seen them before.

Sidenote--I have a picture ID lanyard of Villarreal from a SBC tourney in Hot Springs.Grabbed it after he threw it away in anger after WKU defeated the Mean Green in the championship game.

I would assume the same as when a football/basketball/baseball/etc coach "steps down". The UNT president or someone above him probably gave him the option of stepping down or being fired.

That picture ID was worthless back then, and it's worthless now.

But Athletic Director is a life position, right? They don't leave, they die in office.

This is a terrific day for UNT and long overdue. Now we need to make sure to hire the right guy to replace him. Reading between the lines it seems that hiring Littrell really was done by our new President and he'll have the final say in who the new AD is. I really expect it to be someone not only experienced in college athletics but also in marketing and fund raising. Maybe someone who is an associate AD at a P5 school.

LA Tech fans ... would your AD consider moving a few hours to the west? (Just kidding ... kinda). He seems to do more with less than most.

Wow, exciting news. New leadership will do wonders for UNT if you get the right person. Good luck.

In an interview RV just said he has no idea why things fell off in football so quickly after the Heart of Dallas Bowl Game. Here's a hint, RV. It's called recruiting. After 15 years as an AD and more time as an assistant AD at other schools that's something you should have figured out by now.

Long overdue, rick did some good things with facilities and the such, but struggled hiring coaches and we just kept losing year after year with no repercussions...finally our admin woke up and decided to take care of business. Lets get a young, hungry AD in here and start playing like a university with 36,000 + students should.

Man, Mean Green fans have been wanting him gone for a loooong time.

i doubt benford would be let go this year...it's the final year on his contract and hopefully the new AD will have some brains and know not to renew benford...

This was a big step for North Texas. RV has been here for 15 years. This change has been needed for some time now.

It is my hope that with our facilities, budget, location, and size, we can lure a talented and proven AD to Denton. I have to admit, I really like what the ADs at LA Tech and Arkansas State have been able to do over the past few years.
