Hell will freeze over before NC State has another field hockey program. We had one, a successful one but the guys were too uncontrollable to coexist with the Raleigh police department.
State doesn't have a stranglehold on the local police they way most other P-5 universities do so if you do something stupid in Raleigh, the odds are you are in trouble. Suffice to say that the allegations at Duke would have brought down the entire administration and athletic department at State, so the University doesn't want that program and DY has emphatically said no to lacrosse.
In my experience at another ACC school, the lacrosse girls were fantastic students, indeed all the female athletes were top notch people. Half the male athletes were good people and the other half were the damnedest excuses for human beings you could imagine.
In listening to the faculty and administration talk about them in general, while the male football and basketball players attracted the most media, the male lacrosse and baseball players were more difficult to manage - lacrosse in particular because many came from high SES families and therefor threatening to pull a partial scholarship meant little to them. "**** you" was as a common a response as "thank you" or "hello".
Moreover, State is not going to be able to recruit very well against UNC, Duke, UVa, WF, and other private or nearly private public schools again due to factors related to SES and expectations of the parents.
