Without any details, it certainly sounds like the new deal will have many of the features of the MAC deal. In the MAC, ESPN3 essentially will serve as a digital platform for any sports broadcast the schools wants to produce, provided they produce a stream using the proper equipment designed to meet the ESPN3 standards. The MAC schools all had to upgrade thier production capabilities to meet these standards. For the schools that do so, it opens up a great opportunity for exposure for basketball and non-revenue sports like baseball, softball, soccer, etc.

The schools pay for the productions cost--but using the radio play-by-play as on-air talent and using on-campus built-in production capabilities already on site--costs are minimal.

We are not allowed to use our radio play-by-pay as on-air talent. The ESPN3 PxP is a separate group aside from the radio. We also all had to spend close to $2 million to upgrade and has taken 3 years. Ohio U, Akron, and Kent still have not made the leap but will be ready by this upcoming season. I wouldn't be too optimistic about CUSA games being on ESPN3 yet. WKU is ready, but I'd think most of CUSA is not ready for this upcoming season and will not be cleared to broadcast over ESPN3 until next season if they get the training, production truck, and spend the money for next season. It's too late to do it for this season unless you are already capable like WKU.

That is NC State's home game, thus it will be on ESPN 3 as part of the ACC's package. That is no indication of ESPN 3 coverage of C-USA.

That's probably because you have a separate agreement for the radio broadcast rights with IMG (or some other rights management company). I don't think ESPN3 cares, you probably just cant do it because its a contractual violation of your radio rights agreement--but thats just a guess on my part. If thats all it is, then it can be fixed the next time the schools rights contract comes up for renewal.

I was going to say, I'm fairly sure I've heard radio simulcasts on ESPN3-streamed games, though that may have been the college radio station's broadcasters (I know I've heard college kids on the non-revenue games).

My bad. I just assumed that your post was meant to be relevant to the original post.

Sources: ESPN3 to become bigger player for ODU, Conference USA.

"ESPN3 has agreed, in essence, to replace the Conference USA digital network. It would broadcast most league contests not televised on conventional networks."
