2019 MLB Draft
Reds picking #7 this year. They still should get a good prospect but unfortunately, the consensus is there's a top 6 tier we'll probably just miss out on which all happen to be position players. So almost every mock I've seen lately says they'll go for the best pitching prospect in the draft: TCU's lefty Lodolo. Tough to get too upset with drafting a tall LH starter with at least a working command of 3 solid pitches. Some speculate the Reds will surprise but not hearing many names. Maybe WVU RH starter Alex Manoah or UNLV SS Bryson Stott.
On the other hand, things generally never go as expected even through the top 6 so there's some hope one of them slips. That's especially true in MLB where it's not uncommon to see teams draft an early pick who is very signable for less than slot money so they can use the savings to go over slot on a kid in R2 who might otherwise be looking at school. The ideal semi-realistic (although still quite unlikely) dream scenario for the Reds might be for Cal 1B Andrew Vaughn to slide. He's listed at just 5-11 and can probably only play 1B, but he's a great hitter and our 1B needs might not be as far away as we hope.
I haven't dug deep, but I haven't heard much about any Bearcats or locals going early. Anybody with info?

One site mentions Kentucky's Zach Thompson. Another site mentions Stott (has Lodolo going 4th) and Bobby Witt, Jr as the "sleeper" pick.
Really looking forward to the draft.

Our first baseman in Louisville is mashing the cover off the ball. .389/.405/1.167, 8 HR, 14 RBI in his last 8 games)
Its Triple A obviously and he is already 27, but he might make a nice stopgap. Not sure what the plan is going to be with Votto, but he's obviously not the same player he once was.

Thompson should go early but I just can't consider UK as local.
Witt would be a no-brainer if he slipped to us but most everything I've seen anyway has him locked into #2 with K.C. and if they somehow passed he'd go #3 to the Chisox.

Check out fangraphs. They just put out a new mock. With none of the 6 bats slipping to the Reds, they think the Reds may look to underslot and have us taking taking WVU RHP Alek Manoah.at #7.
I am kinda starting to like ASU OF Hunter Bishop and his upside potential.

Good Article on O'Grady.

Quite a few guys most of us have barely heard of have really hit well this year at Louisville. O'Grady and VanMeter are two, but there's also Nick Longhi, Aquino, Refsnyder and Colon. Each of them has an OPS over .800 (for comparison, Senzel had a .687 in his limited time at Louisville). Per the article, O'Grady credits Larkin for a lot of his success but I wonder if the hitting coach there, Leon Durham, deserves some too. By the way, there's an effort on Redszone for Brian O'Grady to be nicknamed The Notorious B.O.G.
