Its probably larger than many in the "P5" too... But putting it into the context of a "G5" achievement makes it seem cutting edge I guess.

I think I saw somewhere it's in the top25 if video boards were ranked by size. I think it comes in at exactly 25

Won't be there too long...just the way it is.

BTW, with Charter taking over Brighthouse I assume a name change in a year or two for your stadium?

Nice. UConn partnered with Daktronics in 2013. The new board is awesome.

Especially since UCF is bringing in their corporate sponsorship sales in-house...where corporations can now get deals that involve getting exposure to the 60,000 plus students around campus....AND...on the new video boards/ribbon boards for both football and basketball facilities.

UCF's stadium in addition to the huge upgrade of the main video board is also getting a 200 ft ribbon board in the south end zone. (Ok, that's a slight fib...as the new south end zone ribbon board will be 7 ft high and only 199 ft long).

The new football main video board will be almost 7 times larger then the previous one...as the previous one was only 641 sq ft while the new one will be 4,104 sq ft in size.

In UCF's CFE Arena...a brand new video board, 8 sided (4 main panels that will be 14.5 ft high and 17.5 ft wide with 4 sub corner sections), plus a brand new 270 degree ribbon board that will circulate the seating area will also be installed during this off-season and be ready for the start of the year.

Its great that UCF continues to upgrade both of their fairly new on-campus facilities that opened up just a week a part back in Sept 2007.

Sure its the largest in the G5 now, but when you jump conferences it will just be middle of the pack in the P5.

In the Big 12, only Texas, Oklahoma, and Baylor would have larger video boards.

Not bad company to be with.

Joran hare has the largest and it it a god awful eyesore. Ruined the asrhetics of the stsdium. I hate em

It looks nice to me

Same here. I live just outside Auburn, so have been to some games there. I think it's great. So is the one at the Liberty Bowl.

No it isn't. It shows which G5 schools are making the investment(s) to potentially move up.

First part is true as schools at ALL levels (P5, G5, Div I-AA, Div II, etc...) are all making improvements thru new and/or renovated facilities...regardless if they ever have dreams of moving up a level.

Its a must just to stay competitive to constantly to improve your on-campus facilities...because all of your current (and maybe future) competition is doing the same.

If you are just standing still (facilities wise)....you will get easily passed by...but most schools at all levels seem to have multiple new projects every few years or so because its a "must have" investment...and that's just to remain competitive and has nothing to do with dreaming to move up to P5.

While some projects are targeted toward to helping secure better recruits (i.e. better lockerooms, dorms, training tables, etc...), others like UCF's new video boards for their football stadium and basketball arena will enhance the fan experience but maybe more importantly, help bring in new revenue streams into the athletic program.

Really, this isn't a bad route we've taken. Start with the basics and do continuous improvement in the decades to come. It might be more expensive in the long run, but it gets us what we need when we need

I wonder what the running total of the stadium is sitting at... This is a job for KnightLight

Ray Jay getting $100 million upgrade with 30,000 sq of video screens including 2 10,000 foot screens in each endzone. Makes the bounce house look like laptop screens.

That's like the 30+ year old guy living at home bragging about his parents new flat screen.

That was pretty funny, thanks

Not really...especially since the LA Coliseum is located across the street from USC's campus (Liberty Bowl is approx 3 miles from the center of Memphis campus).

Plus USC DOES control the LA Coliseum (since July 2013), as USC is spending $270 Million to renovate the Coliseum.

Obviously, having the Rams play at the Coliseum for the next 3 years will be a huge revenue boost for USC as well.

Just because UConn knows it isn't going anywhere doesn't mean no one else is getting a promotion...

They have a 98 year lease and pay $1M in rent a year while we pay effectively nothing as primary tenant because it is basically ours. But seriously at Tennessee I had to walk to class further than the Liberty Bowl is from Memphis campus.

ha ha...

The $$$ USC will be making off the Coliseum for decades to come...(let alone the next 3 years with at least 9 NFL games played in the stadium for each of the next 3 years), the $1 Million fee is a pittance....as USC will earn more $$$ from just one 90,000 person crowd (including thousands and thousands of high $$$ College and NFL Premium seating) in a the soon to be renovated stadium vs what Memphis will make in an entire season...

With 7 USC games...and at least 9 LA Rams games per year for next 3 years...plus other events/concerts, USC will be sitting pretty for decades to come.

it's exciting to watch UCF gradually turn the Football Stadium into a complete facility.

It's like that humble startup that keeps getting better. That academic center was a nice addition to create a partial facade
