I can't wait to hear what he has to say about our city and university... I hope they focus on the positives from his tenure at Memphis, rather than making us look like a bunch of unappreciative "miserables."

UM salvaged his career. There should be nothing but gratitude from JC.

Your comment about UM salvaging Cal's career made me think. In 2000, when we hired Cal, there were eight other open positions besides Memphis that I would consider, at that time, to be prestigious jobs: Georgia Tech, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas State, Miami (I might argue this with myself), North Carolina, and Notre Dame.

Would Cal's career have been salvaged had he taken either of those positions instead of Memphis?

Just something to consider and discuss.

He would have won at any of those schools.

As long as Cal had Worldwide Wes, yes he would have won at those schools. However, Cal needed the NBA straght to HS rule to change, the old C-USA and John Robic. Those three things created a perfect storm that we rode to prosperity and John rode to the Kentucky job.

I doubt Cal would have had the latitude which he was allowed by RC. However, he would likely have been successful.....at any school.... with his WWW liaison.

Being at the only basketball school in a football conference is not hurting his run either. The SEC in basketball is only marginally better than CUSA was.

Calipari may have had an opportunity to coach Houston, Miami, Illinois or Kansas State. Indiana, North Carolina, Notre Dame & Georgia Tech would not have taken a chance bringing in a coach with Calipari's reputation.

Houston may have given him the "keys to the Kingdom", but KSU, Illinois & Miami were football schools. No way they let the basketball coach run the athletic program the way we did. Honestly, in 2000, we had more to offer a coach like Calipari than Houston did. Back in 2000, the Grizzlies weren't here - Tiger basketball was the only game in town.

So that one year without the Grizzlies really did it for him?

Could Wooden have won without Sam Gilbert?

Could Bartow have won without whoever bought Larry and company cars?

so many questions that need answers.

It was a mutually beneficial relationship for a majority of the time. There was a bad break up, but it's been 7 years, going on 8 ... time for both sides to get over it. He needs to stop taking pot shots at the University & we need to stop acting like he never coached here (unless we're pitching our program to the Big 12)

The sycophants and disciples Calipari has collected over the years are in rapture.
