See link. Tiger1983 referred to Cal as "the best asset of the athletic program." Who's the sycophant now? Exposed!!!!!

Yep. That's why it is best not to get too personally attached to a coach.
That way when they leave for another job you don't get your feelings hurt and show your a5s....or decide to fly to Lexington to continue the pathetic jock sniffing. Neither one of those is a good look.

Good luck with that. They've drowned on the coach kool aid all the way back to Rip. If this board was around in 1999 posters would have been vilified for daring to critique Tic Price.

What if I told you there was a coach so powerful that he brought a Memphis basketball program to such heights that the fanbase still couldn't get over him to this very day . . . 30 for 30: Calipari King of the Miserables

RE: STR: 30 for 30 on Calipari this fall
When thinking of Cal Memphis fans should probably use this quote that was used about the great John Wooden.
Quote:But to retroactively stamp the entire Wooden legacy with the word "cheat" doesn't do anyone justice. It exaggerates the reality of the situation, turns it into black and white, inversely simplifies it every bit as much as asserting that Wooden was a perfect man who never did anything wrong.

The only thing exposed is your ignorance. My email cited in the post merely urged RC to take all steps feasible to retain Calipari - a sentiment shared by 99% of Tiger fans at the time - and pledging my financial support to help the effort. It was in no way a sycophantic post and by suggesting it you tar me and the vast majority of Tiger fans with the same brush.

UM salvaged his career. There should be nothing but gratitude from JC.
Your comment about UM salvaging Cal's career made me think. In 2000, when we hired Cal, there were eight other open positions besides Memphis that I would consider, at that time, to be prestigious jobs: Georgia Tech, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas State, Miami (I might argue this with myself), North Carolina, and Notre Dame.
Would Cal's career have been salvaged had he taken either of those positions instead of Memphis?
Just something to consider and discuss.
K-State didn't become good until they hired Bob Huggins if I remember right. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

to be fair...Cal wasn't going to leave for NC State. He was just angling for a raise.

Winning was fun. Having to defend him 24/7 against people calling him a sleazeball (and realizing if he weren't your coach, you'd be saying the same thing) was not.

I played golf with a couple of Div III basketball officials the week after Cal accepted the job here. They predicted he would find a way to win but when he leaves, we would be on probation. He'll be going to a better job. Hmmmmmmm............

We were on probation when Calipari left for some very non-Calipari-related reasons. He didn't exactly salt the earth when he left.
And to answer the above question, lol, Kansas State was about as good as basketball before ten years ago as they were in football before Snyder.
Turr-bull.
