I bet the next moves will be in the A-Sun and WAC footprint.

A-Sun, Summitt, WAC and Big South are in need of schools. All 4 could be torn apart to nothing if they don't make any moves in getting more D2 schools up.

They are unlikely to make a jump in the next few years.

Is UNA still considering the move to D1? They seem like a perfect fit for the OVC.

The A-Sun has said it would only expand with the right teams. They don't want to split the basketball shares anymore than they have to.

I think we are more likely to see conferences contract / merge than to invite numerous DII schools just to fluff up enrollment.

But, they do need to expand because they don't want to be spread apart like so many conferences these days. Several D2 schools in the southeast do fit in the A-Sun's footprint. If you do FCOAs for football, basketball and some other sports? Would it not hurt to also save money by adding schools in the footprint? A-Sun inviting D2 football schools could help get them sponsor A-Sun football which could compete against Southern.

Yes but the ovc believes they are a premier basketball conference and too good to add a d2 school. Una would be an excellent add and a perfect fit for the ovc footprint.

They want to, and need to. But doubling the athletic budget overnight is a problem.

There is also a contingent of folks that don't want to see them move at all for other reasons.

Some of those people have blinders on. Staying D2 would not help with the sports costs one bit.

Those people are not concerned with athletics at all, much less what is good for them or not.

Going to D1 means that you can be closer in academics with your peers or who you look up to. Being at a lower level, you do not get noticed. Moving up to get your sports team on TV can help bring new students in. Some of these D2 schools are mainly the lower end of the FBS schools who can compete. The issue is trying to save money to get a profit from the sports. A-Sun, Big South and other FCS conferences should look at D2 more. Several D2 schools have better facilities than several D1 schools. West Florida have been doing a lot of upgrading which some of the drawings show are much better than severl of the schools in the Sun Belt Conference.
