We beat both the MAC teams you mentioned by 4 touchdowns. Neither was a fluke.

Bill Connelly = Football Study Hall/F+ rankings. If you want more detail on where your team "placed", go to his individual team reviews. They've been out for weeks. Bill spends more time on G5 teams than anyone else. Sometimes he doesn't even agree with his rankings but he goes with the results of the formula and will try to explain why each team is where they are.

True enough . . SBC teams beating up on SBC teams and then getting their arse kicked in OOC games is not how respect is earned. 04-jawdrop

Haha...wake me up when Ark St is playing Howard, Wyoming, and ODU non-conference. It's always the fans of teams that play the powerpuff girls that talk the most noise.

I remember in 2007 when Troy played #1 Florida, SEC Division Champ Arkansas, #10 Georgia, and Oklahoma State out of conference. Teams like Ark St, MTSU, and FAU were winning a few OOC games and talking smack about how Troy couldn't get it done. It was comical.

Cute, but this isn't about App. It's time someone in the conference takes the next step nationally. Ark St fans are claiming they carry the banner, then carry it throughout the season.

With 4 of the 5 last SBC titles and OOCs that are usually very strong, I have no problem with them carrying the banner. They are the SBCs top program right now.

App barely beat Ohio, Ohio got crushed by BGSU, App beat Ga Southern 31-13, I am guessing Georgia Southern would have no chance with Bowling Green based on your logic. How did that work out?

Certainly the weather helped a run oriented Ga Southern and help to cause
the Falcons' bad snaps and fumbles. You only have look at Matt Johnson vs
Tennessee to see the impact the rain had.in the Bowl game.

Actually rain is extremely detrimental to an option offense that likes to play in the perimeter like we do. Pitch plays are high risk as it is anyway, you add in a slippery ball and that makes it even worse.

The weather didn't really look like it affected either team though to be honest. You can say the bad snaps were caused by the rain, but I watched Oregon have bad snaps all second half in a dome. BG played fine in the first half.

BG was determined not to get beat by Brieda. Well, they didn't...but they got beat by everyone else in the backfield.

I think it has little to do with previous results. Astate is expected to lose more of their supporting cast( QB, a couple of other guys as well they have been projected to be down now for the last couple of years yet they are right in the thick of things and prevail at the end). App brings back their entire team minus a few guys ( Blair is the only one of real importance in my opionion.) so by logic App should be the favorites. Of course they could pick Astate and they might disappoint. GS is a wil card as they will have a new coach and system with some slight tweaks. But they've got to prove they can throw the ball to keep teams from selling out on the run.
My ranking would be App, Astate, GS.

Awfully small sample size for your narrative.

A-State probably had the best Sun Belt non-conference G5 wins in 2012(ranked Kent State) and 2014 (Utah St), and won a bowl against a MAC school in 2013(Ball St).

Cherry pick much?

We ALL need to win non-conference games.

Mostly, they got beat by Upshaw. They couldn't catch his ass.

RE: SB Nation_Ranking all 63 college football non-powers for 2016
This is the way I figure it....

Georgia Southern
Non-Conference Performance: A-
Conference Performance: C+

Arkansas State
Non-Conference Performance: C-
Conference Performance: A

App State
Non-Conference Performance: B+
Conference Performance: B+

If you're going to grade a team you have to do it on the whole season and not just conference play. Therefore App State is the top of the class for 2015, and with not having a new coach like GS and not having a gaping question mark at quarterback like StAte I'm fine with them being the favorites.

Didn't say it was a fluke. Bad weather certainly favors a running team.

I watched they game, even perfect weather wasn't going to save the Falcons. It was just one of those games where one team played one of their best games of the year, and the other team didn't show up.

Are we really upset about our rankings in May?

Eh, we're used to getting slighted in the rankings. We've never been picked to win the league in any of the last 5 years...I don't expect to be picked to win this year either.

We have to be the favorites based on what we have coming back. Shouldn't have anything to do with last season. We'll see what happens when stAte and GS finally have to play each other.

we only have one weakness, the OL, unfortunately, that might be the most important position on the field, we will go as far as the OL takes us.

You certainly have an argument. But have to? I'm not sure about that. Arkansas State's offense is loaded. They set the SBC conference record at 49 points per game. Their offense is not one that needs strong QB play. It's predicated on spreading you thin and doing it fast. They are a system offense that can plug and play pretty well, not to mention their QB replacements are two 4-star QBs. I'm not sure anyone else in SBC has even one 4-star QB.

Though their defense isn't the SBC's best, its good enough to win the SBC easily riding the coattails of their offense. So no, you don't have to be the favorites. 11-2 doesn't mean more than 9-4 when you've played Howard, Wyoming, and ODU to get there. They were 8-0 in SBC play for a reason, and beat you guys at the rock for a reason and they don't lose enough playmakers for anyone to forget that.

4 star QBs. Means zip 4 years and 1 team removed from high school. Never understood why transfers get propped up the way they do, especially for the most part after failing at previous schools

Appreciate the respect. Looking forward to Troy games again really glad to pick you guys back up on the schedule. It's always difficult to win against Troy. I think the D will be the best part of our team this year even with our offense being relatively a plug and play system.

I also think App doesn't have to be the favorites. We've won 4 of 5 and were never the favorites. I just wish we could play App this year too, it would be a perfect schedule playing Ga Southern, App, Troy, and the Cajuns.

I will give App the fact they could easily go 8-0 in SBC play this year. We don't play them, so there's nothing we can control when it comes to passing them.

We're just going to have to win the Battle of the Boro's, and somehow get through playing our last 3 games of the season @ Troy, @ ULL, @ Texas State. Huge disadvantage schedule wise playing our last 3 league games on the road, though it will probably help our attendance numbers.
