Coach Dockery's Last Game Video
I was sitting at the graduation of my granddaughter last night from LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY in Frisco, TX. Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick was guest speaker at the commencement. He spoke early and then had to leave to be interviewed by Megyn Kelly on Fox News. Behind me sat some folks and we talked before the commencement. Found out one of them was the former QB for OLE MISS back in 1983, when we opened the season to beat Ole Miss 37-17. It got me thinking about the 1983 team and Rex Dockery. That led me to finding this video, which is very well done. Thought it might bring back some fond memories of that team and Coach Dockery.

RE: Coach Dockery's Last Game Video
Thanks - loved Coach Dockery. Tragic to loose all those way too soon. Wonderful memories.

Great find, thanks for sharing!
Makes you wonder what may have been had that devastating plane crash not happened 2 weeks later. I still remember where I was when I heard the news and the sorrow I felt for the families and all of Memphis.
Great team and great Tigers:
Rex Dockery
Charles Greenhill
Danny Sparkman
Tim Harris
Derrick Crawford
Jeff Womack
Punkin Williams
Eric Becton
Memphis hired Dempsey and, a year later, Louisville hired Schnellenberger and the trajectory of both programs began to deviate.

Quote:Dockery and freshman DB Charles Greenhill were killed in a private plane crash 15 days later on December 12th as they traveled to Lawrenceburg, Tennessee for an awards banquet. Also killed in the crash were the pilot, Glen Jones and assistant coach, Chris Faros.

WOW!

Never knew the story behind the Dockery-Finch Forum name.. Now I know... What a tragedy.

That too was my first semester. This was a real gut punch. I have been to the crash site since then and as a Tiger fan it was very emotional for me.

What makes you wonder how the date of the crash would have made any difference? Don't follow your line of thinking at all. Please explain.

I was not suggesting that the date of the crash made any real difference. I was just mentioning that it was only 2 weeks after that game. I DO think that the Dempsey and Schnellenberger hires were somewhat significant, but at that time, I dont think our administration put a lot of emphasis on football.

Just think, in '83, the basketball team was really rolling with Kirk and Dockery had the football program turned around. Everything was looking good!

I think it was Kelly Powell. He had his son with him who plays football at South Alabama. They had a relative who was in that graduating class. Also in that class (for you old timers) was Mickey Mantle's granddaughter.
