SBC Weekend Baseball 5-13 to 5-15 Cajuns/Jags battle for 1st
Conference games:

UL-Lafayette at South Alabama
Little Rock at UL-Monroe
Troy at Georgia State
Texas State at Arkansas State
UT Arlington at Appalachian State

Nonconference:

Clemson at Georgia Southern

Future SBC:

Coastal Carolina at Charleston Southern

Notes:

The battle for 1st has finally come. We've been looking forward to the inevitbale meeting between the SBC's top 2 RPI teams and top 2 teams in the league standings for weeks, but it's finally come to pass. South Currently has a 3 game lead on ULL in the league standings, so they can lock up the conference title with a series win, however if the Cajuns sweep, the two teams will be tied for first heading into the final week.

Elsewhere the battle for 8th begins for real this week with ULM, Georgia State, and Arkansas State all tied for the final SBC Tournament spot. With similar schedules remaining for each of the 3, anything could happen this week. App State in 11th is not eliminated yet, but the odds are against them.

Ty Harrington returns to his old haunts in Jonesboro with his Texas State band of misfits today. Harrington was an assistant at AState back in the 1980's and 90's, and was well liked.

Little Rock's Ryan Scott, still the nations leading hitter, tries to hold onto his crown this weekend in Monroe against a ULM team with everything on the line.

This is the final Friday-Sunday weekend of the year. Next weekend's rivalry week games will be Thursday-Saturday.

We just need to keep our heads above the tourney eligible line or be totally embarrassed.

I don't care what the conference office says. Historically there is no bigger baseball rivalry in the conference than the one being played in mobile this weekend.

We are well above the line. And have been well above the line literally since our first conference game. And people keep talking like missing the tournament is a real possibility. It's silly.

As for UTA, this weekend series will have major implications as far as seeding goes. I talked about it in my last blog post about baseball.

http://themaverickrambler.blogspot.com/2...retch.html

EDIT: Hey Red Wolves. Mind doing us a solid and winning a some series. Would really help us out next week.

I'm all for the Red Wolves helping you out . . .

. . . as long as that help comes after Sunday . . . until then, they should continue losing . .

This game will probably be a doozie. After 1 inning USA leads 2-1. Both teams have 3 hits.

I was feeling bullish after last week, but Clemson is better than us.

They are much better than us actually. We're looking pretty good for next year though...

Edit - Clemson continues to be better than us. It's really ugly.

RE: SBC Weekend Baseball 5-13 to 5-15 Cajuns/Jags battle for 1st
Jags threatened in the bottom of the 5th, and a spectacular play by the Cajun center fielder kept two Jag runs from scoring. The Cajuns then added a run in the 6th.

Heading to the 7th, game is tied 2-2.
