Announcer says Rice leads MTSU 122-113.5. MTSU needs 1st or 2nd in the 4x400 relay to pass us for the women's team championship.

If this is accurate, wouldn't they need the 1st place 10 points?

Thanks would seem to be true ... unless I heard the announcer incorrectly. (A distinct possibility.)

Let's hope you heard MTSU 4th correctly! 05-stirthepot

I SAW that on the live video feed. :-) Also a TV shot of the Rice team celebrating. (I should have CTRL-PrtScrn'd it.)

Here's a screen grab of the Women's Triple Jump medal ceremony -- Rice 1-2 (Daisy DING & Cybil OBIOZOR, middle & right):

It is disgusting that only I had the correct scores and that I knew it was over before the relay. Those timers were an embarrassment.

Here's a screen grab of the Women's Shot Put medal ceremony. Champion Clair UKE and 3rd place Ijeoma UGWUNZE in the middle and left, respectively. (Ijeoma is giving the Owls' hand sign.)

Timers? Wouldn't that be a separate function? I'd say it should have been a meet director in charge of something like that. People are so used to computers doing all the work for them that they probably didn't notice it - probably wasn't deliberate.

I watched quite a bit of the video feed this weekend, and I thought MTSU did a good job with the meet, and their announcers seemed excited to be hosting the meet. The only issue I saw was their track was a little weird in its set-up and I don't think having the javelin event in the middle of races was a good idea (especially when the run-up to the javelin was on the main part of the track).

BTW, Middle Tennessee's track coach has been there for over 50 years (since 1965!). Makes Wayne Graham seem like a young pup by comparison (although I think he's a few years younger at either 77 or 78).

The timers also keep the official score. Rice used to use this company for the Lopez Meet, but they screwed up too many times, so they were not hired again.

Way to go, ladies! And how about some love for Jim Bevan? By the way I think Russell could keep track of the scoring as quickly as the computers.

Coach Bevan was voted C-USA Women's Track and Field COACH OF THE YEAR (4th time)!

Even if they win every event you mentioned (and go 1-2 in PV and TJ), that's still just 96 points and they have to score 40 points in the other events. I'm sure they'll score some other points in some distance events, but to win the meet, they're going to have to score in a few of the sprints too (although to be fair, they appear to have some sprinters this year with a shot at a top 5 or 6 finish).

I predicted Rice would win with 135 points, followed by MTSU, Western Kentucky, and UTEP. I was wrong. Rice won with 136 points, followed by MTSU, Western Kentucky, and UTEP.

Good call. I was very impressed with Cartwright and Racasan's performances in particular. Bodes well for a strong NCAA cross country performance next fall.

So THAT's the reason for the discus NMs. Claire's points there would have really blown up your prediction. :-)

Seriously, thanks so much for your info, predictions and advocacy for Rice T&F. Love it!!
