I think the reasoning behind this is that they want to make "ETSU" synonymous with the university. Kind of like how people don't refer to UCLA as University of California Los Angeles...they just call it UCLA. That is my guess.

If it truly 'sticks' for several decades, or a couple of generations, at least, then that's great. (I'm saying here and now, though, that it won't be a dominant thing for more than 20-30 years, at most. That's just the way human fickleness works.)

One of the good things the new branding and logo have going for it is that now the university logo and the athletics logo are essentially the same. This makes it more likely to stick around for much longer. Since the time ETSU has done this, other universities have followed (not saying ETSU lead the way, just saying others are doing it). UT Knoxville no longer uses the old "UT" with the top of the T being the shape of the state. They now use the same power T logo as athletics except reverse colors. University of Oregon uses the simple "O" that athletics adopted.

I hope it will translate into true brand recognition & brand equity for coming generations of ETSU students.

So glad I went to "E". Funny....My diploma says something else.

You seem to have trouble grasping the concept of a logo...

Then there's all those folks down the road who went to "T", I'm sure they can identify with you.

It costs a lot of money to rebrand every place the old logos are shown. It took years to get the old logos everywhere. There is no reason to waste much needed resources to change old to new, especially when much of it will be gradually changed thru new facilities or renovations.

Just join the thousands of fans and students that already proudly display the 'E'. Buy a new 'E', place it on your car, wear a new 'E' shirt or hat and I'll bet everyone will know it stands for ETSU.

I agree, you start outside and work your way in. If you asked me, this is the BEST rebranding effort ETSU has ever done. I've seen more E's around town on cars, shirts, hats, etc, than I've ever seen in the past. I'm sure a brief stint in the 90's might compare, but without getting a top 10 ranking and bringing home championships, I would say this effort accomplished the mission.

Do it right or don't do it. One does not embark on a rebranding campaign unless you are prepared to fund the program

Nobody ever gets rid of all the old branding. There are still plenty of the old rifleman ans star logos around UT.
