Big XII dissolution
http://www.news9.com/story/31926403/big-...of-the-end

One former member of Oklahoma State’s athletic oversight committee suggested the Power 5 conferences could realign into four 16-school conferences instead.

“To me, I think the Big 12 just needs to die. I think we’re going to see four 16-team conferences and the Big 12 ends up on the chopping block. It’s the most easily poached. Look at our history. We’re the easiest to split up, easiest to divvy out.”

Doing that is more complicated then people think. Thr dchools eould need homes or there will be massive damages to be paid.

I believe damages have already been set in the Big 12 bylaws for teams leaving the conference. It would be difficult for those left behind. Depending on who is left, they could invite others to join or they would surely get an invite to one of the G5 conferences. UConn, Cincy, USF all took a big $ hit when the BE was torn apart and were paid contractual damages.

RE: Big XII dissolution
Ok, let's have a draft. Pac-12 picks first because it only has 12 schools and it missed the playoffs last year and last conference to win a NCG.

The Pac-12 picks Texas.

Next up, the ACC, it's the 3rd last conference to win a NCG

The ACC takes WV
The Big 10 takes Kansas
The SEC takes Oklahoma
The PAC takes TT
The ACC takes Baylor
The Big 10 takes Iowa St
THE SEC takes TCU
The PAC takes OkSt and KanSt.

There's no way Oklahoma would go fourth in such a "draft." And Kansas State and Iowa State probably don't get picked up by anyone.

RE: Big XII dissolution
that person is not intelligent enough to understand that as of now only the Big 10 and SEC would offer the potential for more money for OU

the PAC 12 and the ACC do not offer the potential for more money

I am sure someone will come along and let us all know about the huge new money that the ACC or PAC 12 would get for adding OU, but that person would obviously be math and business challenged

if you have a conference with 10 teams and a conference with 12 teams and a conference with 14 teams and the conference with 10 teams is making more money for media rights than the conferences with 12 or 14 teams and you believe that one team in the 10 team conference or even 2 or 3 teams brings the majority of that value

how is it possible that when you move those 3 teams to a larger conference that you suddenly not only have there value the were bringing to 7 to 9 other teams, but suddenly now they are suppose to bring that value to 12 or 14 other teams that makes no sense and only a network run by morons would pay for that and that is exclusive of NCAA football playoff money or Rose Bowl or Orange bowl ect that does not get increased because a conference adds more teams

you simply cannot take a dollar "value" a team "brings" and spread that over more teams and pretend there is an increase for all teams when that happens

and only a buffoon pretends that suddenly the 10+ teams in the ACC or the 8+ teams in the PAC 12 that are not carrying their own weight suddenly become more valuable because OU is added to the conference......those teams still just do not carry their weight and no team out there brings more value to teams that are already not carrying their weight that is just poor economics and poor business period

RE: Big XII dissolution
I think its impossible to divide up the big 12 into the 4 other 4x16 power leagues. The best way to divide the big 12 would be:

Pac 20 adds Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, OU, OK state, KU, K state, Io state

Baylor and WVU join either a 16 team SEC or larger ACC. I think it would be better if they join the ACC and leave the SEC and Big 10 at 14. The ACC could jump to 18 with UConn or Cincy or maybe jump to 20 with both and temple. Got to have some rule changes where the pac 20 and ACC at 18 or 20 could hold separate hoop tourney for each division and maybe come up with a plan to allow ND access to the ACC title game. Than you have a 4 team playoff of the p4 conferences winners.

Also, no way the B1G and SEC let the ACC pick first!

The ACC could have had West Virginia for 50 years. It isn't going to happen.

The SEC will not consider a small private school like TCU. The SEC wants schools like North Carolina, Virginia and Texas.

The Big Ten does not want another school in a smaller population state like Iowa. Like the SEC, the Big Ten wants schools like Texas, North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia Tech. The Big Ten may take schools like Kansas and Oklahoma.

The challenge with breaking up the Big XII is that many schools like Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, and Baylor may be on the outside looking in like Connecticut and Cincinnati.

Ultimately, it may be easier for the Big Ten to absorb the Pac 12.

If those 5 schools, and maybe TT, are left standing then they will pull in a number of the current Big 12 applicants and continue as the Big 12 but with an actual 12. Houston, Memphis, Colorado St, Cincy and UConn would all still join, imho.

RE: Big XII dissolution
The winner will be the conference that can accommodate Texas and Oklahoma's baggage. The SEC is only interested in Texas and Oklahoma. The B1G is only interested in Texas, Oklahoma and (possibly) Kansas. That leaves the ACC and P12. Both are comparable academically. The P12 has more slots available. The ACC has a better time zone.

Tier 3 is going to be a critical issue. All of the other conferences have committed their tier 3 rights to their conference.

I don't think there is any chance the big 10 takes anybody out of the big 12 other than Texas, OU or KU. Most likely for the sec, acc and pac 12 to expand there will need at least 1 out of those 3 to be included.

We all know that nothing like this is ever going to happen.

But if the purpose was to keep today's Big12 members "in the club", you'd have to do something like this:

Conferences can only select a "package" of schools. You want School X, you have to bring their entire package in.

Package 1: UT, TCU, Baylor, and TTU.
Package 2: OU, OK State, and Iowa State.
Package 3: KU and KSU.
WVU can be chosen separately without taking in another school.

RE: Big XII dissolution
I like the idea of carving up what used to be The Big 12 like a quarrelsome Christmas Turkey. I would welcome the opportunity to use social media and countless message boards across the interwebs to debate the value of each Big 12 program in a manner similar to our friends from Morgantown.

I would be especially happy to cast the deciding vote to send WVU to CUSA to join their instate brethren. Only after publicly declaring that they add no real value or "move the needle" for any real conference.

Karma is a ....

If they want to dissolve the conference and escape their GOR and any other potential exit penalties, they need at least 8 of 10 votes to do that. Only schools that have a good future home will vote in favor of dissolving the conference.

Once Oklahoma and Texas are provided for, all you have to do is wait for nature to take its course. It wouldn't be long before the remnants, even if they stay together (as they likely would, for lack of a better place to go) would eventually be cut out of the two contracts - the CFP and the Sugar Bowl - that give them "power" status anyway. They don't need to dissolve to be relegated to the G6.

Then they would probably cherry pick the AAC, adding Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati and BYU to have a 12 team conference that would likely always have the inside track to the G5 CFP spot.

The only issue is the length of their GoR, which just gets negotiated away.

I still say the most logical way to realign conferences is alphabetically.

Can't wait for Old Dominion and Ole Miss to face off in the Cracker Barrel GET OFF MY LAWN! Classic. All injuries to be accompanied by I've fallen and I can't get up! on the PA.
