It's the way we've always felt. We KNOW the potential is there.
Out of the blue question, with regards to that column's last sentence…
Say the Big12 votes to expand.
Could that scare the BI6 into doing the unthinkable???
And snatching up UC (and shoring up the BI6's presence in OHIO) before the B12 comes calling?!?!?
(I don't think do either… but d@mn, it's fun to speculate!)
It might prompt the B1G to make a bid for Oklahoma and Kansas (with hopes that Texas leaves for the PAC) to sink the B12 as a P5, but no way do they take UC. The whole point is to keep UC out of a P5 conference, especially the B1G
The whole point is to keep UC out of the P5? Sounds like tinfoil hat time to me.
Not at all a conspiracy theory. Gordon Gee said as much several times:

"You know Penn State just abhors Pitt. It would be the same way. Even though we love Cincinnati as a city, we want it to be an Ohio State city. They’d have to take Gene out and shoot him to let Cincinnati into the Big Ten. There are some things that we just would not to. And that’s the way that Penn State also feels about Pitt.”

"Presidents said the process of securing funding in the past has been extremely contentious. “It was really hand-to-hand combat,” Gee said. “There were times when the University of Cincinnati would want something and I would try my hardest to make sure they didn’t get it, even if I wasn’t going to get it either. It was not one of my greater moments as a university president.”"
Nothing about Big 12 or ACC there.
Maybe now that he's been pushed out of O$U he wants to stick it to them by making them share the state with UC.
