Enclosure is not just a matter of the cost of the containment walls but also the heating and cooling costs of keeping it useful in all weather - and then there's the lighting. An open wall space might be easier on the budget for those reasons as well.

With so many schools (high schools as well as colleges) building indoor practice facilities, there must be a way for UAB to get that done as well. Buildings suited for the 20th century may be held against UAB in recruiting competitions.

If I interpret that pic correctly (and the angle is confusing), is the left wing of Ullman going to survive after all? That would please me.

yes I told fumbles it was wasting money and you land locked yourself and prevented any future expansion. He was adamant on its location and tearing down part of Ullman. All four firms also suggested this and presented models and he was still adamant. Clark understands and won out with the help of the foundation and the architect showing him over and over and over and over.

He wanted to show he was the smartest guy in the room at all times. He did win out with it being covered and not enclosed. but the location at least changed for the better. A LOT more to this story and it has not been easy but at least we will build facilities and we need to be thankful.

Seriously spit out of my coffee from laughing BL. 03-lmfao

I know it's been asked a million times, but, when will all of this get started and in what order?

I've been told what we see in this picture will be ready by the 2017 season. I'd imagine it wouldn't take 6-8 months right?

Many IPFs don't have heating or cooling systems having very large (sliding, garage-type rolltop, etc) doors that are opened or closed as needed.

My guess is monthly operations and utility costs played a role in not closing it in as well. Just a guess. Is operations & maintenance budget for facilities an athletic cost or university cost?

I like the pictures and hope the building will adequately serve UAB's needs for many years since what is built will be what we will have past 2030 - maybe 2040. We have such a long list of football facility needs built up since 1990 that we will be kept busy with other things for the next decades.

Yes it's the same picture that has been on the wall of the HC office (right hand side back end just beside door to toilet) since callaway and it hasn't changed.

It's the same Davis drawing.

That's the new drawing. Looks good. GMC will do fine. They have actually worked for me before. I know
them pretty well.
