How and do you justify that to a return focused investor? And sorry, gifs don't work in the real world.

The Big 12 should be extremely leery of any "promises" made by Fed Ex/Memphis to support the Big 12. Extremely. 07-coffee3

Big East fell apart before we got there...

You got there, and .... Fed Ex never materialized. All hat and no cattle. 07-coffee3

the Big East never materialized...no BE, no sponsorship.

All of us in the Big East/AAC are acutely aware that the alleged and boasted on Fed Ex sponsorships never materialized. No need to re-state it. 07-coffee3

we didn't promise the AAC jack ****...

Why do you think the Memphis Tigers play in FedExForum instead of just staying in their own, upgraded stadium, The Pyramid?

The Memphis athletic department needs much more money than what you're linking to there.

The FedEx guy is worth $4 billion? Great. Someone give him a call. Keep calling. Tell Mr. FedEx that Boone Pickens has donated $265 million to Oklahoma State athletics (and more than twice as much to the university for academic purposes).

TCU boosters raised a total of over $100 million after they started their big push, look where it got them, and look where their annual athletic budget is: $80 million/year in 2014-15. Memphis is at $41 million for that same year, according to the same source, http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/ . TCU received $14 million in Big12 revenue that year (partial share because they were phased in), so probably about $10 million more than Memphis got from the AAC. That still means Memphis athletics would need almost $30 million/year more to close that gap to TCU, and TCU is not even one of the biggest spenders in the Big12 (their budget is 6th highest out of 10).

So someone at Memphis needs to call Mr. FedEx and tell him and his friends that the Memphis athletic department needs much larger checks if it's going to get into the Big 12 and compete well there, and that offering to sponsor a conference championship game is not nearly enough.

UMemphis I am surprised by your excitement of the evil capitalist buy in scheme. I though you would have preferred The Karl Marx Big 12 Championship game @Comrade Stadium.

have a little humility - or at least some class.

You come across as someone who thinks he's more knowledgeable about the corporate world than the FedEx management--shareholder suits! return focused investors!--someone better call the CEO pronto and let him in on this heretofore unknown knowledge. You don't think this has ever occurred to them before and they have no handle on it? Seriously?

It's actually corporate law 101, but if you think your knowledge is somehow unique and FedEx has no clue how the corporation shouldn't be doing this, you should call them asap.

Or better yet, buy a share and go to the shareholders meeting.

You want to be competing with them. The Big 12 wants programs that will have the money to be competitive with its current members.

When the Pac-10 was exploring expansion in 2010, Larry Scott asked the Utah president and AD this question: "What are your plans for raising money and increasing your athletic budget to a Pac-10 level?"

Any school asking for the opportunity to join the Big 12 ought to have a very strong answer to that question. Having the most credible and convincing answer to that question might be the deciding factor.
