RE: What the PAC 12 should do is...
That is lolo. The Pac should seriously work on a merger with the B1G bringing in Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas and (?). You would end up with a 32 team behemoth stretching coast to coast. 4 pods of 8 for football. 7 in division, 1 crossover each gives you 10 conference games, and guarantees playing each other team 2 times in a 16 year period (more than some of these teams meet now). Basketball goes 8 pods of 4, allowing for H&H within your pod, an annual H/A split against your paired football pod, an H/A split against half of your adjacent pod every year, and a 2 game H/A split against each opposite division each year. This would ensure in an 8 year period that you played every team Home and Away in hoops, while retaining an 18 game conference schedule. The football championship could be played in 8-10 different location, hoops could have one large tourney or split into two weekends with two groups of 16. Assuming that Missouri is the hypothetical 32nd team your groupings look like this:
Pacific:(Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State) (California, UCLA, USC, Stanford)
Midwest:(Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado) (Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State)
Central: (Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa) (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern)
East: (Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue) (Ohio State, Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State)
