6-0 Owls going to T4.

I think he's at 48 now through 4, leading 8-0. Hope he can finish out the 5th, and pick up the win*. Let's get him a couple more runs.

*No Houston sports fan who remembers a certain Oilers playoff game in Buffalo ever feels safe with a big lead until the game is over.

You do not have to think football. Around 2006 or 2007, we played at UAB and had a kazillion run lead midway through the game. Then, our pitchers could not get anyone out, and UAB staged a stunning comeback.

Ojala had a shutout through 5 innings, and left with something like a 9-0 lead, as he was still recovering from his arm injury, and our bullpen proceeded on a walkathon that ultimately cost us both the regular season CUSA title (losing it to ECU) and what appeared to be a sure thing national seed.

Similar to Salinas leaving after five. Let's hope history does not repeat as Amador lets in the first run.

Willy Amador in for Ricky as we head to the bottom of the 6th inning, and Dayne Wunderlich trots out to RF to see his first action since crashing into the wall in Haittesburg. Great to see him back!

B6: Amador pitching.

Leadoff walk and one-out double gives Panthers their first run. Sad to see the shutout gone.

Kravetz in to pitch. "A lot of extended family here today ... He only lives about 10-15 miles from the park. ...(He attended) a very exclusive private school ... a little bit east of here." (Gulliver Prep.)

Kravetz knocks down hard-hit ball up the middle. Infield single.
Double play ends the FIU threat! Yay!!

12-1 after 6.

What the heck happened to Amador? He was pitching so well in midweek games, then suddenly, the last two Sundays, he can't get anyone out?

Ford Proctor makes a great play on a pop-up to end the 7th and preserve the 12-1 Rice lead. Due to C-USA travel rules, Rice wins 12-1.

Top four teams in the conference are on track to sweep their weekend series. Rice and Marshall have already completed the sweeps. FAU and USM are leading their Sunday games.

ETA: FAU completes the sweep, 3-1 over UTSA. USM leading WKU 5-3 after 4 innings.

Impressive sweep. I actually think we have a chance to do some damage this year in the postseason if some of our hitters continue their hot streaks.

I'm unaccountably depressed we gave up a run. But allowing only one run total in three games... isn't bad, I guess. We put up a string of 24 consecutive scoreless innings going back to last Tuesday.

Team ERA is down to 2.57 (also very few unearned runs since the first three weeks of the season). Rice is #4 in the nation in runs allowed per game at 3.2.

Our pitching is getting the job done.

It was great to our offense come alive today (although not surprising given the daytime start).

I found this post to be strangely timed, as I believe this was around the time Rice executed a "successful" sac bunt in the 1st inning after scoring 3 runs with zero outs. After giving them an out, Rice left the bases loaded without scoring another run in the 1st inning.

The decision to bunt there was about as bad as I have ever seen or heard of. Unless it was bunting for a base hit? Otherwise, grow some balls and go for the kill in that situation. I mean, bunting in the 1st inning is bad enough on its own, but bunting when the opposing pitchers have allowed 5 straight base runners to start the game?!?

Glad to read that the offensive onslaught continued, despite letting them off in the 1st inning with a "successful" bunt.

It was great to our offense come alive today (although not surprising given the daytime start).

Offensively, our AVG is up to a season-high .268, with 5 batters hitting .299 or better, and 3 (Gray, Proctor, Warren) hitting over .340.

Defensively, our fielding percentage is at a season-high .975, and on the mound, in addition to our sparkling 2.57 ERA, our staff BAA is now at just .219.

Much needed sweep. Now riding a 5-game win streak (4-0 since the end of Finals) as we enter the final two weeks of the regular season. And with Salinas, Warren and Wunderlich back in action, we're almost back to full strength, with only Jackson Parthasarathy still MIA.

To win a share of the regular season conference championship and position us for hosting a regional we need to win at least 5 of our final 8 games (including at least 4 of 6 vs. FAU and LaTech). Won't be easy, and we'll need Willy Amador to return to form, but with our pitching and signs that our offense just might be coming of age, I think we can get it done. Go Owls!

we have been very impressively moving up in the rankings for ERA, hits /9 innings, SO/9 innings and WHIP for the past month or so. Actually bypassed A&M, TCU and UH in several of those categories (UH has been quite stingy in giving away walks, however). Hopefully will keep it up another month or so !

USM completes the sweep of WKU, 13-4. The standings among the top five teams in the conference remain unchanged: USM, Rice, FAU (1 back), Marshall (2 back), La Tech (3 back).

Since the start of April, a span of 21 games, we've given up as many as 4 runs twice. In 8 of the games, we yielded no or one run. In another third, we've given up 2 runs. That's pretty stout.
