Yes they would. If the AAC loses two schools I see BYU having a real chance at an AAC invite.
Cheers!
I'm in 100% agreement with you that the AAC would offer BYU an all sports invite. Where we disagree is whether or not BYU would accept. I (and most BYU fans and most anyone with knowledge of the Utah political system) know that BYU would say "thanks, but no thanks". You seem to think the AAC is appealing to them. The AAC has no appeal to BYU without the Power status. They don't care about "tweener" status or "G4" or any other fan made term that helps the fans cope better with not being in a power conference, they care about status and how they look to the people of Salt Lake City and Mormons around the country. Joining a G5 league (which is what the AAC is, remember) is basically saying "you won Utah, we give up". There is NO chance of that happening.

Cool story brah 07-coffee3
I mean, can you refute anything i say with facts? I mean hell, I'm the king of delusions here but only when it comes to my school. Aside from that I'm a pretty level headed person. This in no way affects NIU so i have no reason for bias about it. I understand you have a vested interest if UH does not get the call up to the B12, so i can also understand why you'd disagree with me based on your self interests for your school. Notice i never claimed the AAC has no chance of becoming a Power conference? When the CFP expansion happens, i think the AAC will be in a prime spot to become a Power conference once more, hell it's why i want my school in there before the lifeboats are all TRULY gone. But my school aside, i think the AAC would do well to position themselves as the unquestioned heirs to the final Power conference spot. Keep getting to and winning access bowl spots, be in the talks to crash the CFP championship games, keep getting ranked and having multiple teams ranked. Basically, keep doing what y'all are doing.

I was joking when I said BYU would go to the AAC if the AAC lost 2 teams. Sorry, sometimes my jokes suck. Stay cool & Biggie: of course BYU won't accept any AAC invite if the AAC loses 2 schools. They won't accept one now. They wouldn't even accept one when Rutgers and Louisville, Boise and SDSU were still members.
Cheers!

Add TCU to replace ECU to reflect that TCU wasn't invited to the Big 12 with WVU.

EAST
Syracuse
Temple
Pittsburgh
West Virginia
Cincinnati
Central Florida
South Florida

WEST
Louisville
Memphis
Houston
TCU
BYU
Boise
San Diego State

*May be* bump Louisville to the EAST and add Navy and Air Force to the WEST.

BYU will NOT join a non-power conference as long as Utah is in a power conference. That's a fact. The politics behind this is bigger than sports, so i don't see it changing anytime soon

Please explain that a little more.

Utah's in a P5 conference. If BYU joins a G5 conference, even if it's the AAC, they might as well place a front-page ad in the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News that reads WE GIVE UP. The optics behind taking a subservient position to Utah would be astronomically bad. If it wasn't that big a deal, they probably would still be in the Mountain West now.

Unless the AAC manages to finagle a spot at the power-tier level, I can't see any benefit to BYU moving there. They'll keep on being independent in football and WCC in everything else.

Exactly. This would be like if Michigan State received a Big Ten invite while Michigan was on the outside looking in. Michigan would rather be independent for pure perception purposes than accept an invite from the AAC or MAC regardless of how much money is offered. Michigan believes that they are a more powerful school than Michigan State, so they would never, ever, ever, ever accept an institutional position that would suggest that they are inferior to MSU.

BYU accepting a G5 conference is structurally institutionalizing that Utah is more powerful than them. That is COMPLETELY unacceptable to BYU. Independence allows BYU to argue that they are still "special" compared to Utah (e.g. "We can get an independent TV contract with ESPN and have our own network that Utah could never get"), whereas BYU is institutionalizing that it's inferior to Utah by accepting any type of G5 invite (no matter how much money that G5 league might offer). The "Would BYU accept an invite to the AAC or MWC?" proposals are as likely as "Would Notre Dame accept an invite to the AAC or MWC?" proposals. I know a lot of G5 fans are in denial about this for some reason, but BYU is no more likely to join them than Notre Dame. They CANNOT institutionalize inferior status compared to Utah.

Not all G5 fans are delusional. There's a poll posted on the MWC board asking what folks think BYU would do if not invited by the Big 12. Only 17% say BYU would come back to the MWC; the other 83% predict BYU would stay independent.

Notre Dame, BYU and Army all have something in common. National Championships and the fact of being special.
