Ad group’s promo pushes Memphis for Big 12
Does anyone have a link to the above promo that some local ad 'geniuses' created?

RE: Ad group’s promo pushes Memphis for Big 12
If someone can find the person who organized this group and get their contact info to me, I would like to talk to them. I am in advertising in Dallas and have some ideas on things they can do here, during the meetings, to create attention and help drive the message home to the BIG 12 even better.

Pretty sure it's Archer>Malmo as they have the University account and created the latest "Driven by Doing" campaign.
Also pretty sure they know what they're doing.

I like how they combined three mid south cities near us into our "Memphis & Mid-South" TV market size......puts us 30th in US
I wondered about that too. Nielsen has us at 50th. I'm sure that's what B12 will go by.
Maybe they added Jackson, TN, Jonesboro and Blytheville or what not.

It is pretty cool ad campaign.
But unfortunately, I am having recollections of our brochure that RC sent to the big east.
Remember how we trashed and ridiculed him for doing that?

Graph shows that they added Jackson (TN), Jonesboro (AR) and Tupelo, MS.
Imagine if other cities added others that are located 70-110 miles away like the above?
Heck...the ad group needed 4 different TV markets to come up with #30 ranking above (which obviously wouldn't be #30 if other markets were able to add 3 new markets)...while both Tampa and Orlando are each in the Top 20 by themselves...but if added together (88 miles a part), they would create the 4th largest TV market in the US.
And while nearby markets could still be important...if a conf network were ever started...it would be the local market and in-state tv households that would have the highest carriage rates...which is why having a large stand alone tv market and/or new state/market will be important in Big 12's discussions. (That's basically how Rutgers and Maryland got invited to join the Big Ten...it was all about TV markets/conf tv network).
Remember, SEC (and ESPN/CBS TV Partners) wanted to get "into" the State of Texas...2nd largest state in the country, and they did that with A&M.

fair point, but Memphis' DMA overlaps with the DMA's of the three other Mid-South cities - all of these have always been a part of Memphis & the Mid-South...in fact, our local channels reach into these regions as well
By contrast, here is a graphical look at the Nashville DMA...

RE: Ad group’s promo pushes Memphis for Big 12
Maybe its just my BFS (Battered Fan Syndrome) but is anyone else thinking this is some last ditch effort? I'm just afraid this is all becoming public so Rudd and the powers-that-be can prove that they pulled out all the stops so when we get left out they can say we did all we could.? Again, hoping so freaking much I'm wrong but I think I've been a Tiger fan too long to actually think something good is going to happen to us...

I was a client of Malmo's and they won 9 Pyramid Awards for me in one year. Is John still active in the agency? I have had many meetings with both John and Ward Archer. I know what I am doing too and having feet on the ground that know the market is much better than trying to pull it off from Memphis. That's why good agencies will send their buyers to an important market to negotiate directly with the media rather than work thought the reps....and the media reps that service Memphis are based mostly in Atlanta and St. Louis. Just so happens, I know most of the media managers (the decision makers not just sales reps) here on a first name basis and have done millions in business with them over the last 35 years. I would only offer my help if I thought I could actually help.

Used to be that Jackson, TN was in the Memphis DMA and the Jackson stations DMA was east of Jackson. Weird deal there. The Truck Ads graphic is a little deceptive because DMA's consist of counties where 50% of more of the viewing in that county is assigned to a market based on station viewing in that county. So, a true DMA map would show counties, not a round circle, as the DMA.
