Dogs know...
This story just confirms for me that dogs understand so much about people and their pain:

Basset hounds stay by dying baby's side

I really believe dogs were put on Earth to comfort man.

We thank you.

The last rescue dog from 9/11 has died:

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2016/06/0...ntcmp=hpff

It brings back memories of having to put down my favorite dog...one of the saddest days of my life.

God bless you Teddy....

Along similar lines…

Dog is God spelled backwards. Coincidence or purposeful?
I believe that dogs are a gift given to humans while we are on Earth as so that we can experience an example of God's unconditional love for us.

I also believe that we will see our beloved furrbabies again when we reach the Pearly Gates because how could Heaven be perfection if we didn't have the companionship of ALL of our loved ones (human and canine) in the afterlife?

I sort of feel sorry for those who can't (due to allergies or other health issues) or won't open their hearts to the love of a dog. They are missing out on one of life's true loves.

A dog's love is different than the love of a spouse, child, sibling, etc. as it is totally unconditional. Maybe the love of your parents is close to unconditional but even parents are human. Humans can have a change of heart and attach strings to their "Love" but your dog never will.

RE: Dogs know...
I've had dogs, and I've had cats. I'll never understand cat lovers.

Dogs rule. With dogs, it's 90% about you. "You're home! Yahoo! I missed you so much! I'm so happy, I'm going to run around like my butt's on fire. If you take me outside and throw the ball, I'll get it and bring it back...over and over again. You can even sit in a lawn chair while you're doing it. If you teach me how to open up the refrigerator, I'll get you a beer...over and over again, and I'll love doing it. You're the best master a dog could have."

With cats, it's 100% about the cat. "Damn, it was nice and quiet till you came back home. Now come over here and pet me, or I'll scratch the fabric off the legs your new couch. By the way, I peed in the corner by the door. It stinks. Clean it up. If you die, and I am the only one in the room with you, I'll eat you in a New York minute."

My daughter and her chiweenie were down over the weekend. "Faith" walked over to the basket we keep her "stuff" in. She picked out her squeek toy and came over to me. Apparently, she decided it was play time with Dan.

Gotta love dogs.

Don't get angry. It will never help.

Don't punish them after they have done something. Unless they are in the act or just about to start try will have no idea why you are punishing them.

They generally want to please you so praise like crazy while they are doing what you want and ignore the negative. You really just want to get across the things that you want.

Get a decent training book and read it twice. Try to remember that You are the one who needs training. The dog just needs a human that can communicate clearly and consistently. He will fall in line under you happily if you learn how to do that.

Above all don't beat your dog no matter how frustrated you get. It won't help ever.

You have made an excellent choice. I can't begin to tell you how rewarding this relationship will be. We've had dogs for the past 25 years, and they have all been unique and special relationships.

A dog will love you unconditionally...if you've never experienced that, it's magic.

As far as training, I go with the previously posted advice.....positive re-enforcement is best, but it will take time and patience...and love. I can recommend "the Dog Whisperer" if you hit trouble spots.

My heartfelt congratulations.
