The reason we have seen so many schools outside the P5 build up their facilities the past few years is because the word was out on the street that a select number of schools were going to be added to the power structure and then the split was going to take place. Basically everyone in the G5 has been auditioning to make the final cut the past couple of seasons.

How this will look in the future is unclear. Many believe the new structure will result in some sort of conference restructuring where teams will be aligned geographically. I think this makes sense for a lot of reasons.

Exactly what we are hearing, too, but it's still a ways off, maybe 5-10 years?

In 5-10 years, one of our Tulane fans will claim it was their idea.

I do however belive the AAC could very well lose 4 to the big12 and the mwc 1 Boise St. and BYU to the PAC ultimately all 5 high revenue conferences rounding out with 14 members each.

Whats to stop Hulu or Dish (SlingTV) or Google (YouTube) from making a rights offer to a league in the near future?

Competition is high and subscribers are now in high alert in saving a buck or two and even three $$$... Point; If any of the above offer lucrative deals to said leagues their services go up in cost, suddenly they then lose customers similar to what espn is experiencing currently.

I don't think so. ESPN is bloated with a lot of on air talent and rights fees that are ridiculous. I don't see any of these streaming options having to leverage themselves to the extent ESPN has. And yet they would not have to bid much to outbid ESPN and Fox for G5 content.

That is 64 teams. So we would add 16 more teams plus Notre Dame:
1. Connecticut
2. Temple
3. Cincinnati
4. Memphis
5. East Carolina
6. Central Florida
7. South Florida
8. SMU
9. Houston
10. BYU
11. Boise
12. Fresno State
13. San Diego State
14. New Mexico
15. Nevada or UNLV
16. Colorado Sfate

Lol at not mentioning Tulane, we get in before half the teams on that list. Its ridiculous to assume otherwise.

They don't mention Tulane because nobody even thinks about it

If this is hypothetically (it IS) happening within 10 to 15 years there is a school in a city of 6.5M with 54k students in a Southeastern state that has no schools in 3 of 5 P5 conferences.

#TheresAHoleInYourMap

But this is mostly a pipe dream and fantasy

Disagree with the bold...as almost EVERY Div I-A and even Div I-AA, Div II and even in Div III have all improved their facilities over the last 5-10 years (some more than others) because if you are doing nothing (standing still), you will get blown by others who have been investing in their programs.

Same goes for Universities as a whole too...if you are not improving/building/renovating each and every year...most are and you will get left behind in the coming years.

Sure...P5 is important and yes its important to "look the part" but almost EVERY Athletic Program at EVERY level are trying to improve/build on their own because its competition every where...not just to get to P5.

It can become ~80 if the Big 12 is raided, the other leagues bloat to ~16, and the Big 12 backfills with American/MWC schools.

Yep. I'm not sure it will go to 80, but the logical number is somewhere between 72-80.
