Tubby speaks ...........
Smith swears he barely read or heard any of it, and his position never changed from what he'd already decided to do before he even accepted the Memphis job. Smith was going to offer Keelon Lawson a support staff role, regardless of whether his sons were at Memphis or not. And Keelon could either accept it or not. And Dedric and K.J. could either stay or go. Whatever. There was no negotiation. There was no back-and-forth. Crazy as it sounds, I really do think Tubby Smith spent less time thinking about all of this than most Memphis fans.

I agree. Tubby handled it well. Now if he could only sign some recruits.

65, where did you hear Tubby say this?

Parrish in attached video interview with another CBS person: Tubby "is not going to cater to all the characters around the Memphis program."
Also, Tubby has been "brought in to change the way things are done."

Good luck with that. It got Larry fired. Cal was able to work around it.

The SEC expanded in 2012-13, and it probably won't surprise you to know that Kentucky Wildcats has, on average, finished better than everbody else. In fact, the Wildcats' average finish in the league is 1.5. But what might surprise you is that Ole Miss has an average finish of 4.3. And that ranks second in the SEC -- just ahead of Florida Gators (4.5), Georgia Bulldogs (4.8) and LSU Tigers (5.0).

Might be one of the few guys with the chops to do his own thing and make it work. I hope so, because it's pretty clear he's gonna do it his own way.

A coach has to have the ability to recruit outside of Memphis in order to have leverage. John could. Tubby can. Josh couldn't...or could but was too concerned with making everyone happy... which then made no one happy.

RE: Tubby speaks ...........
He said on one of the podcasts last week - either Rothstein or Seth/Andy - that the Keelon situation was a big consideration as he was discussing taking the job. Said that he knew he would bring his staff with him, and discussed the ramifications of Keelon's reaction with the Tigers admin. Said in the end, he decided it would be an admin position - take it or leave it. Said he definitely wanted to keep Keelon on board, but had to bring his staff because the consistency and continuity is so important for what they are trying to do.

It's interesting in all interviews I've heard, he doesn't refer to "me" coming in or "I" want to do this. It's always "we are coming in" and "we are thrilled to be here".

Spot on. It's also why he "resigned" at KY. Fan pressure similar to what we have here.

And it if didn't matter to Tubby that much as he states, why rub the Lawsons nose in it through the media. Keep it to yourself.

The last I heard, Tubby hasn't got a top 25 recruit in 11 years since he left KY so what makes you think "he can"?

A coach who can't do that will not make it into his 4th season at Memphis.
