FYI

Just heard applause in the ACC TV meeting. Probably means that league has signed that billion-dollar rights deal. Unconfirmed, at this time.

Its just the opposite...as the ACC has been working with ESPN for 6 years in ESPN's "promise" to start up an ACC Network...and if they don't by an upcoming deadline...ESPN will make a large one-time payment to the ACC...and many think, ESPN will do just that...as ESPN has had zero luck in finding regional, let alone national partners that want to add (and charge all of their customers, if they watch the channel or not), more $$$.

From last Oct after 5 years of trying to start up ACC Network:

With Big Ten and SEC Conf raking in tens of millions of $$$ per year (they actually have some demand for that product), but with Pac-12's Conf TV Network no where close to the revenue that's generated by those 2 conferences....its been rough sailing for those trying to get ACC TV Network off the ground.

I can tell you that it hasn't been luck at finding partners as much as it has been other priorities. B1G, NBA, etc. The ambiguity is out of the way and ESPN doesn't want to lose the markets. Hence the profitable markets migrated to the AAC.

Well, it isn't a one-time payment... it's an increase of $45 million per year, for the duration of the contract. That's why many think an ACC Network is inevitable, even if it doesn't launch this year.

They also think ND wants it to be Navy because of the history and the ACC would like to be back in DC area. Again, just talking heads in the Raleigh area, I consider it a rumor but I do think they tend to have more connections to the ACC insiders. Don't see it happening in my life time but one never knows.

The ACC IS in the DC area. UVA and Virginia Tech, and the rest of the schools in the South, represent the area well. If it is so important to the ACC, UVA and VPI can play their annual game at RFK.

RE: ACC and expansion
Connecticut will be a great addition for the ACC.

The ACC Network is needed to showcase the football and basketball league. It isn't for the UNC- Miami football game. It is for the Wake Forest-Clemson game. It is for the Boston College-Virginia Tech game. It is for the NC State-Syracuse game. It is for the Pittsburgh-Georgia Tech game.

The conference has inventory and fan bases that wish to have access to it.
