My Way-too-early Plan for Big 12 Divisions
After giving the matter of divisions for an expanded Big 12 some thought, I recommend the following:
(1) Put Texas and Oklahoma in different divisions but make them permanent intra-division rivals (just as Tennessee (East) and Alabama (West) are in the SEC.
(2) Texas & Oklahoma then take turns choosing schools for their division
(3) All other Big 12 schools then assigned permanent intra-division rivals by the conference office (based on proximity and desires)
Nobody needs to tell me this is premature and arguably NTR. You didn't have to read it.

As long as we get to knock the stink out of Kansas in football each year, I'm down with it!

RE: My Way-too-early Plan for Big 12 Divisions
Assuming the Big 12 expands to 12 first, instead of 14...and Cincy & Memphis are the additions:
DIV A:
Texas (Oklahoma every year)
TCU (Baylor every year)
West Virginia (OSU every year)
Texas Tech (Kansas State every year)
Cincinnati (Iowa State every year)
Memphis (Kansas every year)
DIV B:
Oklahoma (Texas every year)
Baylor (TCU every year)
Oklahoma State (WVU every year)
Kansas State (Texas Tech every year)
Iowa State (Cincy every year)
Kansas (Memphis every year)

Don't think Tech will be in same division as Cincy and West Virginia. Why put furthest west and furthest east in same 6-team division?
Main point is to split OU & Texas and after that just make it work.

If the B12 expands because a report told them it would increase their playoff chances then I'd bet they would split their divisions based on what gives them the best chance to get into the playoffs.
Of course any report trying to predict playoff chances has the potential to be wrong as programs evolve.

I keep trying to do this and don't come up with anything that works geographical.

Who cares ... the B12 threw out geography when they added WVU.

Don't think it's going to work perfectly geographically - just keep the eastern most teams in the same division. Then go based off prestige IMHO. Keeps TX and OU on separate ends and TCU & Baylor too.

I was trying to do North and South and keep OU and TU seperate, but you can't do it without putting OU and OSU in sperate ones.

RE: My Way-too-early Plan for Big 12 Divisions
After further contemplation, I will tweak my plan by modifying the 3rd step:
Change "(3) All other Big 12 schools then assigned permanent intra-division rivals by the conference office (based on proximity and desires)"
to "(3) Big 12 schools which, due to tradition or proximity, wish permanent permanent intra-division rivals, then assigned them by the conference office as far as possible."

I've done this several different ways. I've loved the looks of each and every one of them. Not sure how practical they are, but they look nice.

Re: OP
What's the point of having intra-division rivals? You presumably play every team in your division anyway.

I stand corrected - should have said "interdivision", I suppose. I'm sure we are all grateful for your vigilance and willingness to point out my faux pas.

RE: My Way-too-early Plan for Big 12 Divisions
There are three absolutes I believe.
1) Texas and Oklahoma will be in different Divisions
2) Memphis and Cincy will be in the East with West Virginia (If they call it the East)
3) If the expansion goes to 4, then BYU and Boise St will be in the (West)
East
Oklahoma, West Virginia, Cincy, Memphis, Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma State
West
Texas, BYU, Boise State, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU and Iowa State

Hey Pickwick. True, depends on who is chosen, but I keep seeing that the 4 Texas schools will be split. The other schools want to play at least one game in Texas every year for recruiting.
Texas and OK have to be in separate divisions, or else they could never play each other in the CCG, which it has been reported would reduce the value of the CCG by 30%.
Here is an excerpt from the long B12 Fanatics expansion article:
"It is very likely that when the Big 12 expands the Sooners will be in a Western Division with Texas Tech and TCU, while Baylor and Texas line up with Oklahoma State, forcing Oklahoma to alternate its rivalries to get what it wants. The kink in the plan is the current Cotton Bowl contract for the Red River Shootout."
