Can't wait to see artist renderings of the expansion.

RE: Time to expand Williams Stadium
I'm reading rumors increasing the size to 25,000. That seems low to me. From a construction perspective, it would cost more to go to 35,000 but almost guaranteed to cost much more to go to 25,000 then to 30k, then 35k or whatever increments until the final expansion.

25k would be the mid deck on the away side. I don't think it would cost anymore to jump straight to the horseshoe(35k) than it would be to do it by phases.

That should be the next big announcement. The expansion.

There has got to be some rumblings around about what the latest is on expanding Williams Stadium. Anyone have any idea other than pure conjecture? If not, I'll take the conjecture.

I don't think they've finalized the plans yet. I think they're planning on going ahead and closing in the horseshoe as well as the upper deck on the student side. I think that was clear when they tore down the visitor locker rooms. Although, they first said that the visitor's locker rooms would be done by the season opener, McCaw has since walked that back saying that they hadn't finalized those plans yet either. My guess is they're going to go straight to 35,000 rather than doing it in stages.

I hope your are right as that seems a wiser plan to go to 35k rather than in stages to get to that point. I'm going to Altavista next week for work and will make a visit to Lynchburg and ride through the campus. I have not been back since they removed the visitors lockers. I've been to games there when 19K+ were rocking the stadium. If it's 35k for the 2019 season that will just in time for the Syracuse opener.

I would fully expect them to move straight to 35,000 for multiple reasons, but not just for Commencement to have more room
1. Recruiting - this matters to kids
2. A bigger number to keep P5/big G5 invites being accepted
3. Going FBS is going to get more Alum like me to come from 3 hrs to go to as many games as I can - they're just going to need the space.
4. LU's mantra is always BIGGER IS BETTER.
5. Doing it in stages would double/triple the costs. Can't rationalize when you're just gonna go to 35k eventually

Welcome to the board HG2011. All good points and the point that P5 schools want to play in big venues is true, and likely to be a driver for one large expansion vs. in states. Of course, when it's someone's/something's money it's always easy to say what we would do. I'm betting when SU comes to town, if there's seating for 35k there will be standing room for lots more. With the NY media market mentioning this game, it's a real bonanza for LU.
