Cal vs Hawaii to be Televised. Sydney Aug. 27th.
Dennis Dodd ‏@dennisdoddcbs · 12h12 hours ago

The first college fb game of season WILL be televised. Larry Scott tells us Cal-Hawaii in Sydney has been picked up. (ESPN, Fox or P12N)

If the P12N is involved I guess Cal is considered the 'home' team for TV rights?

With the new Hawaii exemption, I have to wonder if this could be a litmus test for Fox or ESPN to gauge viewership for the games allow to be play a week early of the regular season.
Hoping it is on FOX or ESPN though.

It will be on ESPN or FS1. Pretty much a 100% guarantee.

Syndey is 14 hours ahead or 10 hours behind New York, depending on how you look at it.

17 hours ahead or 7 hours behind Los Angeles.

So what time exactly will this game be played? If they televise it at 10pm eastern/7pm Pacific on staturday Aug 27, that would mean the game needs to start at noon Sunday Aug 28 Syndey time.

Or will it be televised at 10pm EDT/7pm PDT Friday Aug 26, which means it will start at noon Sat Aug 27 on Syndey time.

well according to this site- the game is noon Sydney time on Saturday Aug 27.. So for the states, that would be 10pm et/7pm Pacific on Friday evening.

I found the answer to my own question.

EDIT: There are some issues with this time zone conversion in this article. I would not trust it.

I found the answer to my own question. The game will start at 3pm Sat local time, which means it will start at 1am New York time, 10pm Friday Los Angeles time and 4pm friday Hawaii time.

From your article:
First off, it will take place on Saturday Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. local time in Australia and that converts to a Friday night game at 10 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. locally in Hawaii.

Sorry, in my own article that I linked to, the time zone conversions don't work out. Hawaii is actually 4 hours ahead of (or 20 hours behind) Syndey.

So the game must start at noon Sat on Syndey time in order for the Hawaii time to be 4pm and ET time to be 10pm.

The company I work for does business in Australia.

This game starts at midnight central timezone.

This is a game where you go to bed and just watch it on a replay. So it will be on ESPN3 or FOX.

I think I would trust the ticket place saying game is noon Sydney time. That would be 10pm on Friday night.

So those times would just be a typical MW game on EPSN with a 7 pm start time.

And I'll also trust the time on the ticketed.com website also.

I find it interesting that Hawaii is involved. We know Scott would like to build a marketing bridge to Asia. Is Hawaii a strategic expansion target?

Noon kickoff on Saturday in Australia is a 10:00 pm kickoff on Friday on the East Coast and 7 pm kickoff on the West Coast not a bad time slot at all in my opinion.

This is a game with little appeal beyond the west coast. Any viewers east of the Pacific Time Zone are just a bonus anyway. A noon kickoff makes the most sense.

So basically an Old-School Kickoff for the people on the East Coast who want to watch Hawai'i Football. At least it is not a 1am start ET04-cheers

ESPN 2 usually show many Hawaii games when they were in the WAC. It is no problems with them to show this game. ESPN lost their football product when WAC could not be saved for FBS. It was a lost of money for them.

August 27 is a Saturday, not a Sunday.

Ah. You're right. Game time will be Friday night at 7:00 pm Pacific time.

Will it be winter or summer down there? Or does it even matter? I have no idea what type of weather Sydney has.
