Per Parrish on recruiting
Spoke with Tubby a couple of days ago, stated Tubby probably is not going to use all of the scholarships, not going to bring in just anybody, when he and staff can bring in MUCH better players next year!!!

Smart man. I would think Tubby will bring the talent level up from what it has been the last couple of years.

I don't think anyone expected a full roster.

Something like adding 3-4 guys - maybe 3 who can play right away and 1 transfer who sits.

A couple of walk-ons.

Etc.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear, I don't think that 2016 needs to be a punt unless Dedric is gone.

Bring in grad transfers with only a year of eligibility. Problem solved.

Right now they are at 8 scholarships when they can have 13 max.

So that's 5 spots, not counting walk-ons McDowell and Craft as part-time contributors.

Rumors of one player being academically ineligible, so that's a scholarship tied up that isn't getting used if that comes to fruition.

If Kessee is in the fold, that's 9 scholarships, 11 overall players, but only a available 10 man roster (1 player sitting out due to grades).

Definitely need a big and could use another grad transfer - that would mean two of the scholarships roll off the books next year anyway.

To the last point, totally agree.

If Dedric is gone, then next year is a wash.

Spend the entire year working with Nick Marshall in practice on post moves and feeding him the rock in every game. Let him get experience against DI competition and speed his development.

As a team, whatever your weaknesses are, work on them in practice and in games.

Be ready for 2017 - you're the foundation for the young cats we are bringing in.

Just what I was thinking too. 1 or 2 years eligibility max, unless of course they are quality players (not many left). Give us a chance to compete and win some games..

Does this all mean Tubby knows Dedric is BOH and knows this year is a wash?

RE: Per Parrish on recruiting
Currently there are 5 returning players that are clearly rotation guys: Dedric, KJ, Martin, Marshall, Markel

There are 3 returning players that are not clear rotation guys: Broddie, Randall, Rivers

There is clearly room for 3 new guys to be in the rotation. After that, any other grad transfer will need to be a big enough upgrade over Broddie, Randall, and Rivers that you can justify stunting their development to play the grad xfer. Otherwise, Tubby would be pulling a Pastner.

Of course, all this changes if one of the top 5 guys is the allegedly ineligible player.

If we are able to sign 3 quality guys, I think we're lucky. If Dedric stays and we are able to get 3 other guys, it's good. I have a feeling the education casualty could be a tall guy (just a guess). Either way, we need another big in the worst way. The Coppin State guy almost seems like a must too...

Is it possible Dedric's grades aren't up too snuff and that is why he went back in the draft?

RE: Per Parrish on recruiting
Tubby wasn't involved with many players from 2016 class while at TT because they only had a couple roster spots open.

Just put it this way next year was going to be in the toilet anyway if Josh was here. There is just not enough good players left to recruit to commit for 4 years. I know scholarships are renewed yearly but I suspect Tubby is an honorable guy and will honor any scholarship to max length of time if he gives it. If he can get a couple players then he should be able to build solid foundation then add additional talent with 2017 class.

i'd rather not waste too many scholarships on players who we will just need to recruit over. It's not like there are difference makers left out there for us to grab.

Either folks don't understand what a grad transfer is or don't want to.

Go look at Goodman's transfer list if you think there aren't any good grad transfers out there.

And after looking, if you think there still aren't any, you may want to write a letter to some of these coaches at major programs who are recruiting guys still on the board.

Grad transfers/Jucos with limited time left are a short term plan until he can recruit 4 year players. It also helps recruiting when you have a competitive team. If a grad transfer can provide some depth, I'd take him. Get the players you really want next year.

I'm with HoopDreams on this one!

Thanks - I also don't understand the difference makers comments.

Sheet...you need bodies...bodies with DI experience with scholarships that come off the books next year.

Go get 3 dudes - a big, a guard and a best available and call it a day.
