Agreed. Anyone who feels good after this is nuts. No game balls after that one. I'm more disgusted than relieved.

Must admit - I was thinking the same thing. Good to get a win, but I was hoping for an easy blowout, and a confidence-builder for our pitching staff. Neither goal was realized.

Beats the heck out of losing in 15 innings on a blown HR call!

Wunderlich (who's failed on his last few bunt attempts) watches one for a strike and fouls off the next (pathetic, but par for the course)...walks. Runners of 1B and 2B, no outs. I think I'd have Teykl swinging away as he's one of our hottest hitters...
Teykl first pitch, super-clutch 2-RBI double in the gap!!! 02-13-banana 02-13-banana That was HUGE. Let's get this other one in.
Lewis bunts Teykl to 3B. One out.
Kopycinski first pitch RBI sac fly. 02-13-banana Well done, boys....but it's not over yet.
Warren singles. Two outs.
Chandler (only guy in lineup without a hit)...first pitch circus catch robbed Ryan of a sure double.

Good guys take a 13-9 lead into the top of the ninth inning.

By my count, if Wunderlich had been "successful" with his sac bunt attempt in the bottom of the 8th, Rice would have fallen behind in the top of the 9th. Tekyl's double would have only scored 1 and Kopycinski's sac fly would have been the 3rd out.

Yes, I realize things would not have unfolded exactly the same if Wunderlich had laid down a "successful" bunt. I'm just trying to emphasize again and again that Rice has been bunting way too much. Giving away outs is rarely a recipe for success.

That felt like watching a Rice football game in May.

Hope we can regroup for FAU.

I'll take a "W" no matter the score.

If we keep hitting the ball well, and Blake provides us with a decent start tomorrow, we can "reset" on Friday with a day off.

Go Owls!

RPI up to 27 after that W.

And since RPI doesn't care about MoV or how ugly you won, we also went up 5 spots with the victory this morning (LaTech only dropped one position).

Can't remember if we won 40 games last year or not, but it certainly would appear to be a longshot this year.

Agree ... but we should applaud today's offensive output and productive 2-out hitting (was 11-for-14 with two outs at one point in the game):

Tekyl - 4/5 with 3 RBIs
Warren - 3/5
Kopy - 3/4
Gray & Lewis, two hits each
and, of course, Proctor's lone hit, a mammoth grand slam.

Gotta shore up the pitching and fielding/throwing pronto, to be sure ... but don't slack back on the hits.

I was trying to do a full clinic and follow the action on this thread and JP's broadcast. I finally just shut it off in the fifth because I couldn't concentrate and I felt the game was slipping away..Imagine my surprise

Our weak (Wunderlich) or ice cold hitters should be bunting in these situations/. You'll note that with runners on 1B and 2B, no outs, and Teykl coming up, I advocated having him swing away (before his double) since he had been red hot.

Not me. I forgot about the game and searched for the result at a traffic light on my way home from work. Given recent results I was expecting a loss so I was pretty relieved at the score. (I was surprised at the 25 runs.)

I can't remember feeling worse about feeling ecstatic about a win. Guilty pleasure so to speak! We got it done though, and maybe just needed to come out on top in a crazy one so we can settle down and get a few more of those 2-1 or 1-0 gems.

Yeah I'll take the win, I just wish we hadn't gotten our second PAT blocked & returned for 2.

It's the postseason and the streak is on the line. We won. I feel better now than I did on Saturday. On to the next one. No other missed bunt attempts, errors, feelings about the future or coaches being mean to players matters. Now win again tomorrow. That's it. Good night.
