The Horizon League had a bad couple years but the league usually averages a 12 rpi ranking. So I'd say the members of the HL are quite a bit better than their counterparts in the WAC.

It still feels like an unusual fit. NMSU fancies themselves as more of a western university. They look towards the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, not so much the Great Lakes.

The Big West not having any interest in bringing back a former member with good basketball is frustrating. No reason why it shouldn't be listed with the Horizon.

The Big West might have approached NMSU, but it's prez doesn't want it's people to know that.

There are S Dakota St posters saying they know NMSU was approached by their league and when the info came out that NMSU is not considering the Summit, whole fan bases seemed.to.gasp into amazement that their league is not desirable.

The Big Sky, WAC, and NMSU have had on ongoing war with the Summit for years, and the NMSU prez has confirmed that that war is still on.

The Horizon reference is just to show a mirage that NMSU has choices. It has more choices, but not the Horizon in my view.

No war between the BW and Summit to report here. But, Denver's AD did not make a lot of friends in California with her comments before Denver joined the Summit.

UND and DU are natural allies but are in warring conferences. Our interim Prez even got his MBA from DU. We should be in the same conference like on hockey, because the fierce rivalry would carry over.

Denver was in the same conference as NMSU for one year and would probably like reuniting with them again. But good luck getting Denver to start football. That ain't happening.

Could see an FBS WAC and NMSU wanting both DU and UMKC w/O fb, but not the rest of the current WAC.
