Why is ODU not exploring this as a revenue option? It seems to be a growing trend for schools that need more money. Plus who doesn't want to drink a beer while watching ODU football.

Anyone know of any rumors about this topic?

I dont know how many $10 beers I would buy but I would enjoy a few on them hot day games!!!

Get Smartmouth, O'Connors and Coelacanth together and give'em a tent for games. Beer would be expensive but also delicious.

I bet you would get them if you knew it was helping ODU. Not really the same thing, but the Charlotte Knights (White Sox AAA team) charges $12 for a tall boy.

You and me both!

There is zero reason not to sell it and there is zero reason it would have to be $10-$12 a pop. $5 would result in many more sales to make up for a lower margin.

Agreed, I bet there would be pushback from the Larchmont Neighborhood cause they done like ODU. hopefully J.Chandler chimes in on this topic

Larchmont has nothing to do with such a decision. You sell the beer, ID everyone (even graying middle agers like myself) and if someone gets sloshed and can't exist like a civilized human, you toss 'em. They are drinking in the lot anyway. If you offer $5 beers, they might actually stay for the 2nd half.

I thought they did sell beer. Just in specific areas.

Wow we have some fan base if drinking before the game and beer during the game are the only things to get them to come and stay for the full game

They should do $1 beers for the 4th quarter, I bet no one would leave!

they do. in the blue room area (the space underneath the suites in the endzone). they are no $10 (like 6-8 for bud light if I recall). you need a specific ticket to get in there and its not cheap. I've snuck in using someone elses ticket a few times. they do the same thing at the Ted. you need a specific ticket to get upstairs to the bar area.

problem is that it gets pretty crowded in there and its not a fun place to watch (yet its crowded every game, 100%). if you could buy beer and bring it to your seat that would be cool. I don't know what NCAA would say about that though. I always assumed that was the reason for no beer.

Selling beer makes sense but ideally they limit it to local/regional brews. Help both the university and the community with your purchase.

And tiki drinks. Big, honking tiki drinks.

Probably to keep ODAF donations up at basketball. Football kind of the same thing and also the limited concession space. With that said I would be all for it. It would probably make the Blue Room less of a cluster before basketball and once Foreman II (working title) is open there would be more modern concession space and room for beer sales.

Yes. Beer sales alone would more than cover the COA payments we need to make. Thats enough reason there to allow it. Cut it off after the third quarter except for the blue room, where they would have premium beverages and liquor/wine, as well as premium food choices too. That and private rest rooms and parking would keep the ODAF donations coming in. If they're worried about basketball donations, simply don't sell beer at the hoops games.

It just boggles my mind how we are not already doing this, in this day and age where we need every penny we can get. To put things in perspective from Harry Miniums article the other day. ODU and the other C-USA schools are slated to recieve about $300,000 each from TV revenue, which is down from the $1 million each previously. $300,000 compared to Big 10 schools getting $40-50 million each!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt realize the gap was that big. We need to get creative and selling beer should be a no brainer to make a couple extra bucks. Also charge the hell out of the P5 schools to come to our camps

This is precisely what they DO NOT want to have happen. Cheap beer= trouble. Sell high end Micro brews.

Also any college football game that I've ever attended they charge for parking, but not ODU. Why not? 10 bucks a car seems pretty reasonable. Some places charge 20.
