We'd have no more chance at beating VT and UVA at anything... Our guilty pleasure.

Is this whole sports fan thing futile? I mean, what would be the point anymore?

Chill, sports are NOT that important. The world is not going to end if the P5 leave.

I don't know if they will ever leave. I think the NCAA will just continue to fall in line with their demands. However, I wonder if we are going to see a major shift in college sports. I think with the COA, the P5 schools will be able to pay more. I think what may happen is that you will see more schools maybe having to move down ( Idaho ) and maybe dropping some sports. The mid majors are not going to be able to keep up with the costs. I very rarely watch any P5, except when UVA is playing. I am sick of P5, ESPN, and the whole lot of them. Especially ESPN. My son told me that ESPN was doing a documentary on the year the Red Sox came back and one the WS. However, they are leaving out the Curt Schilling blood sock game because of his recent comments.

Personally, I enjoy watching sports regardless of the opponent. Whether we are beating up Campbell or getting our butts kicked by UNC, it's all the same to me. If we no longer had the chance to play against the P5 schools then we would just be more excited about the rivalries we have in our lowly G5. Do you stop watching the NCCAT when there are no more David's in the field of Goliaths? Did you watch the NIT this year? Did you watch Vegas 16 since ODU was there? Basically, I don't think your watching habits will change any - you will tune in to whichever games mean the most to you, as well as the rest of the country. The rest of the country doesn't care about watching ODU anyway, why does it matter who we play against?

The NCAA is the P5. They just allow some of us at the table for the time being.

They just extended the NCAA Basketball Tourney contract, with no changes to format, until 2035(ish). I think talk of a split is only that.

Well to me it would suck if the P5 left. ODU is already an "outsider" school being in the G5. People still think ODU is D2, just because we don't play in the ACC or B1G. If there was a split we would get buried. I know a lot of you have some sort of a dismissive attitude towards the P5 (understandable as we're in the G5 and get shafted by them and the NCAA) but I've always had big visions for ODU. I would love nothing more than for ODU to be in the ACC making millions upon million a year and playing on ESPN every game

I think money is in the process of destroying college sports. You see it already with the waning interest among young folks. The closer they move to a quasi-professional model, the less connected the typical college student feels to the team. New fans are the life-blood of all sports and the P5 needs to tread carefully.

If the P5 begins paying athletes outright (I'm talking big bucks), I think they become nothing more than a crappy minor league. I think a break-away by the P5 would hasten that transition. If I want to watch pro athletes, I'll watch the NFL or MLB. I have zero interest in semi-pro football or basketball.

Guess I'm just getting old. Time to step out of the "way-back" machine!

I actually think that a P5 split could be better for college sports in the long term.

Football is already separates whether we like it or not. We just are not competing in the same league as P5 teams.

In all other sports, i think the split could make the G5 more compelling. The P5 would struggle without Cinderella at the dance, and the G5 could create a basketball league that showcases student athletes as just that. There would also still be some hoops powers among that group since they don't play FBS football, and the G5 tournament, i think would emerge as the more interesting tournament one everything shook out.

When we were FCS I enjoyed the rivalries we had and didn't care one bit about FBS teams. If P5 splits, so what? good riddance in my book. I can watch their games if I want, but whoever ODU is playing will always be my first priority. If it's CUSA then that's fine by me. Maybe we could go to a championship series like FCS. That would certainly make our version of FBS more interesting than what we have now.

I sorta wish that CFB used the English Soccer format with the leagues.
You win your league and you move up, you lose it, you move down. In the mean time pit the members of that league against themselves so you don't get something like say,, Alabama vs Coastal Carolina.
