Conference Expansion heating up again
According to this 247 report, its only a matter of time for the Big 12 to expand.

http://247sports.com/Gallery/45168278/Ga...845-264845

Reported that 2 of these 7 teams will get in:
1. Cincinatti
2. BYU
3. Houston
4. UCF
5. Memphis
6. Boise State
7. UCONN

Where does that leave ODU, are we in position to make a move if needed?

RE: Conference Expansion heating up again
This is honestly probably why we've delayed moving on the stadium until the summer. Gives us more flexibility in what we can do.

Hopefully, Selig has been working those phone lines trying to convince the AAC to make us one of their own. They'll have their pick of the litter though, since I imagine every C-USA team is gonna give them a call. I think we're high up on the list, but how high is a big question.

Probable AAC Targets in no particular order:
ODU
BYU
Army
UMass
USM
UNC-C
WKU
MTSU
UTEP
Marshall
Rice

It could really depend on who's taken. If it's Houston and Memphis, I think you see BYU, and either a texas team or USM. If it's Cinn and Memphis it might be 1 east 1 west. The situation that probably helps us the best though, is if it's Cincinnati and UConn. That means that they'd need at least 1 eastern school, and it removes one of UMass's pluses in that it'd be a good traveling partner for UConn.

That is, of course, IF the AAC wants to expand.

I don't understand why conference expansion is influencing our stadium plans. Can someone please explain.

Because our current stadium is perfectly suitable for CUSA.

Not entirely sure, but if I had to guess I'd say revenue sharing.

ODU- I can see it and hope for it. We're a good size market. Would be nice to lower some of our travel costs as well. A lot of the AAC guys hate our school. So it'd be nice to jump up and have that rival feel instantly.
BYU- I see them sticking independent over going G5.
Army- Haven't seen them listed as a possibility in other discussions I've come across. Having Army and Navy in the same conference would be neat. The Army-Navy Game would bring in some cash to the conference.
UMass- are they a real possibility given the call to drop down?
USM- I'd like to see them move up
UNC-C- I'd like to see them move up ONLY if we go to. I hate them :)
WKU-No clue if they have a shot. Again, I haven't seen them mentioned.
MTSU-Same
UTEP-I'd imagine UTSA would go over UTEP based on market size and location
Marshall-Another team I'd like to see move up
Rice-Good to keep the Houston market, but do people watch Rice games?

I don't think they are saying its definite either way. However, I could see where being flexible right now about offering certain specifics details regarding stadium capacity and other amenities would be a really smart move; if one was interested in making the move. Not only does it provide us with an opportunity to adjust to look more appealing, but it also may ultimately mean that we may be able afford a little more (stadium wise) than originally budgeted. (additional AAC revenue).

RE: Conference Expansion heating up again
Pros and Cons for moving to the AAC.

Pros
- Good athletics, we are near the top in almost every sport each year. Good basketball program and football is on the rise after moving up.
- Top 40 TV market and centrally located within AAC territory
- Passionate fanbase
- President willing to do big things for the Universities profile
- Growing campus
- Basically brand new athletic facilities (Ted, LR Hill Sports Complex, Practice Facility, etc)
- Located within a talent rich area

Cons
- Endowment is on the smaller side but still bigger than ECU, Memphis and UCF
- Academics/University Ranking need to get better
- We are not dominating C-USA competition across the board
- Small stadium capacity (20,118, hopefully our new stadium is 30k)

Feel free to add to the list

RE: Conference Expansion heating up again
Outside of football, the move would make a lot of sense for all other "major" sports as well. Name recognition alone of the competition will sell far more tickets for those that may be half-hearted ODU fans.

Agreed, if you told me SMU, UCONN, ECU, and USF were on the schedule. instead of UTSA, MTSU, WKU and FIU it would make a world of difference

You took something that was opinion and accepted it as fact. You should know by now that isn't the smart way to go.

Conference expansion affects who plays on our field. If that looks to be better/worse in the long term it can change how many seats/amenities we want to pay for right now.

He'll tell us information after he has absolutely no choice but to say something. ODU doesn't communicate with the fans.

Agree. And Southern Mississippi's stadium is perfectly suitable for CUSA.
