Big 12 says 12
The consulting firm tells the Big 12 that 12 teams is optimum.
The doesn't really say that 12 is better than 14, but what if it is? For the good of your conference which two would you eliminate to move to only 12 members?
For the ACC, I think we would have to sideline Wake Forest and Boston College.

That's too easy, the last two to join--Mizzou and A&M.

Vandy and Kentucky; neither have had much upside as to being able to compete for a spot in Atlanta.
A&M is too valuable to kick out and Mizzou did just win the East in back to back seasons.

Kentucky basketball...
Vandy is the nucleus of the academic SEC.

It's an easy question on the surface in the ACC - drop WF and BC. However, I get the impression that WF has significant political clout. I believe the chairman of the committee drafting the new autonomy rules was Nathan Hatch of WF, which seemed like an odd choice for that job. In a perfect world, we'd drop them and BC. A lot of the scheduling problems would go away if we did.

Wake Forest won the ACC championship in 2006, Boston College made the game in 2007 and 2008. Hard to kick them out. (I know the league is entirely different now than back then, but based on championship appearances, it would be the equivalent of kicking Tennessee out).

NC State and Wake.
Neither add much to the conference athletically or market wise (UNC and Duke are plenty for NC) and are a net drain for the ACC most years.

And for the SEC
-Mizzou....They never seemed a great fit to me culture wise and the B1G would have been a better home for them.
-Miss State....Again, much respect for the Bulldogs but in a purely hypothetical of who you could most afford to lose from an academic, athletic and revenue POV, the second Mississippi team is it.
