WHAT’S BACK FOR 2016?
Coming off the program’s first bowl appearance in five years, USF returns school season record holders at quarterback (Quinton Flowers, 991 yards rushing, 22 passing TD), running back (Marlon Mack, 1,381 rushing yards) and wide receiver (Rodney Adams (822 yards, 9 TD), a middle linebacker who posted the second-most tackles in school history, and four all-conference selections.
On offense, the Bulls return 93 percent of their yards – including 98 percent of rushing, 93 percent of passing and 86 percent of receiving yardage – from a record-smashing offense that posted school-records of 5,741 total yards, 3,205 rushing yards and 54 offensive touchdowns in 2015. The Bulls averaged 33.6 points and 441 yards of offense per game in 2015.
On defense, the Bulls return seven of their top nine tacklers, including leading tackler and all-conference linebacker Auggie Sanchez (117 tackles), and players that accounted for 12 of USF’s 17 interceptions and 16 of 25 turnovers gained. The defense ranked in the Top 25 in the nation in interceptions (14th), turnovers gained (24th) and tackles for loss (13th), and in the top 35 of seven statistical categories in 2015.
CLOSING 2015 STRONG
USF finished the 2015 regular season winning seven of its last eight regular season games, finishing 6-2 in American Conference play and coming within a Temple loss in its final regular season game of playing in the inaguaral AAC Championship game. USF defeated every team in the American East Division in 2015, going 5-0, including routs of No. 21 Temple (44-23), Cincinnati (65 27) and UCF (44-3) to close out the regular season. USF outscored opponents 175-70 and averaged 503 ypg in winning its final four regular season games.
RECORD SETTING
USF’s offensive explosion in 2015 helped the program set 34 team and individual records on the year, including 16 team records and 18 individual marks.
Notable team marks included: total yards (5,741), beating the old mark by 358; rushing yards (3,205), shattering the old mark by 769; total TD (54), TD Passes (26); fewest turnovers (15); points in a half (51 vs. Cincinnati) and points in a conference game (65 vs. Cincinnati).
Notable individual marks included: the season rushing record (1,381 by Mack); season QB rushing record (991 by Flowers); 100-yard games (9 by Mack); yards per carry (6.6 by Mack); receiving yards (822 by Adams); receiving TD (9 by Adams); touchdown passes (22 by Flowers) and all-purpose yards in a game (281 by D’Ernest Johnson).
