Here's another dumbas$. Why couldn't she just do like everyone else and ask for less ice? It's an ice drink for crying out loud. The lawyer is also an idiot. I also really like Starbucks' response.

Woman Files $5 Million Lawsuit Against Starbucks For Putting Too Much Ice In Her Drinks

Starbucks' response:

Quote:“Our customers understand and expect that ice is an essential component of any ‘iced’ beverage.

Actually, it sounds reasonable.

Is Starbucks ripping off customer by loading up on ice and yet charging you for coffee? I wouldn't be surprised, would you?

It's a ice based beverage logically it will have have more ice than a normal coffee. Now, as far as what Starbucks charges, I think folks have been crazy for decades for paying that much for anything Starbucks sells, especially the coffee. 04-cheers

The point is not that there is surprise in the fact there is ice. It is wether or not Starbucks is loading up on ice to defraud people.

Restaurants have done this for decades. If I ever visit one I just ask for less ice. This particular case looks like a nuisance lawsuit spurred on by a slick lawyer hoping Starbucks would rather pay much less and not have to deal with the nonsense.

Yep, you're a lawyer.

Actually, hadn't thought of it from that angle when I read title thread. Was thinking this is another dumb*** lawsuit ... how do these things get filed?

Now, maybe she's the start of a movement to get these bastages to give us our money's worth.

Note: I've picked up drinks from Starbucks for co-workers on occasion (they have little shops inside grocery stores around here) but never had one myself.

I've never understood why some folks willingly pay that much for coffee. But more power to Starbucks for getting folks to part with their cash. The one or two times I've actually been in a Starbucks I just ordered the house coffee and both times go funny looks from the person pouring the coffee.

My wife came down on the same side as you.... If they have been nationally jobbing their customers by giving way too little coffee (only the amount you get in a small coffee).

I go either way... I think a class action suit for 5 million is more respectable than this suit (or is this a CA)

She has the power to say "light on the ice", which I know people do when ordering beverages.

Sure, she may have a point. Still feels weird to me, with so many big things to get worked up about, that people will make things like this their passion and mission. At the very least, it's got to be someone with lot of time on their hands (and hunger for a few minutes of fame).

Either that or someone looking for a handout/easy money, etc...

I don't think so.

No "slick" lawyer would take this kind of investment on. This is a very expensive case.

I tend to think otherwise knowing that a large corp has large bank account that will pay just to make something go away. She probably won't get anything close to $5 million but she'll get something which is what she and the lawyer probably are counting on anyway.

I can assure you that in spite of what you may have heard that is not how things work on the ground.

Kinda agree, but then I think about way back in 90s when someone went after gas stations in California because they were letting the meters run a couple pennies a person on a tank of gas, racking up millions. Seen similar class action suits since. Ripping people off is ripping people off.

The gas station was forcing people to pay the few extra cents. But this woman could dictate the amount of ice they put in her drink.

But the biggest reason why she'd lose is this: Starbucks' menu clearly shows a ton of ice in their cold drinks. So it's not misleading advertising, pretty straightforward.
