Can Zach just throw strikes? I'm a little surprised by this choice, given it's the heart of their order, with 3 left-handed hitters out of the next four batters. I would have gone with Solecitto.

Given the number of strikeouts, it had to be over 100. My guess would be close to 110.

Zach give up a couple hits, but strands runners at the corners. Ball game!

Game Ball #1: Jon Duplantier (W, 5-4, 8.0 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 12 Ks) in a dominating performance, and preserved our bullpen by going deep into the game.

Game Ball #2: Dane Myers (3-4, HR#2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) who woke up the offense with his leadoff bomb in the 4th inning, and then ignited our two-out rally in the fifth with another RBI.

Game Ball #3: Tristan Gray (3-4, RBI) who continue his hot hitting.

Second game likely to start around 6:15pm CDT. Let's take two!

Predicting the timing and location of afternoon/evening thundershowers is always dicey, of course ... but weather.com's future-view shows rain starting at about 8:15 and getting intense in the next hour. I hope the worst of it swings north of Rice ... or doesn't materialize at all.

Go Owls!!

No score after 1 1/2. Fox has allowed two hits and a walk in 2 IP but has worked out of some jams.

No score after 2 1/2. Fox gets them 1-2-3 in 3rd. Rice with another GIDP in the 2nd. I suppose I could complain about it being our jezillion double play we've hit into but I won't - it's just a game.

Rice offense doing its usual thing against a total bum of a RHP: 12 app, 7 starts, 3-3, 42.0 IP, 5.57 ERA, .295 BAA, 10 BBs, 31 Ks

And we've already hit into our 9th doubleplay in the last 5 games, the vast majority following a leadoff baserunner after we fail to get the bunt down. Some things never change.

It's a broken record. We could be facing the absolute worst pitcher in all of D-1, and he'll have us handcuffed for the first 4 innings.

Blake is not sharp today, and doesn't have very good stuff. He's not fooling anybody, and even the outs are being hit hard.

Our guys all hit in HS so who is to blame? Hitting approach has been poor for the last few years. We need a new approach at the plate.

Blake gets out of the inning with a strikeout of the #9 hitterKKKK, but four balls were hit hard against him that inning (HR, single, two fly balls).

Myers flied out to RF.
Proctor grounded out to 1B. Going down like flies...and not making the pitcher work at all.
Gray first pitch single. Two outs.
DiCaprio lined out to LF.

Down 0-1 heading to the top of the fifth inning.

I'm all for being aggressive,. but we almost never make the opposing pitcher work. Guys leading off an inning should be looking to work the pitch count; not first pitch swinging. That's poor fundamentals.
