By the way, I see no mention in the CA of the Ole Miss player admitting that his mom's rent was paid by an ole miss coach.

The Ole Miss coach paid the rent for humanitarian reasons had nothing to with the guy playing football for Ole Miss. The CA is planning a feature story highlighting the coach's well meaning intentions.

Yeah, and everyone took in Mike Oher for humanitarian reasons too. Had nothing to do with his NFL ability.

Real journalists (which are hard to find these days) are NOT supposed to advocate for positions except on editorial page.

I prefer guys like Big Jack Eaton who are homers & columnists who promote the home team. Not expecting them to ignore issues or lie but they shouldn't be looking for a way to tear a program apart with opinion. Instead the CA has given Memphians a long history of guys who look for reasons to tear down our university while they promote UTK & OM. Even now with the Tunsil drugs & money issues the CA is nowhere to be found yet if this happened at Memphis the CA would already have our program on probation or given the death sentence.

He does his job well.

I don't mind dissent amongst writers but at least cover the team.

The way we get into the ACC is if four teams are poached by the B1G and $EC.

If UVa, VPI, GT, and NCSU were to leave, UConn and three others would be replacements. FSU & UM wouldn't allow USF and UCF. ECU would be left out. Cincy would probably be in the Big XII by then. Memphis and Temple would be the best of the remaining options.

RE: CA primer - Big 12 expansion and Memphis’ chances (Stukenborg)
I didn't see anything wrong with the column. We know our challenges.

Our best bet is our geographical proximity to the Big XII, the fact we are in $EC country, our brand, and strong corporate support. We need a successful football run. We need to win our league convincingly. We need to win of the successor BcS bowls. We need to be a force in basketball and football. That would overcome the fact we aren't in a top twenty market.

WVU should be like New Mexico or Wyoming. But they have traditionally been good at football. That's what made them attractive. Boise State makes no sense, but if WVU can get in.

There was never any rhyme or reason we shouldn't have been doing the same thing as Louisville or Boise over the last two decades. It's a matter of the right leadership.

A message board poster with sources claims we are getting in. That's good enough for me

Posted this yesterday on gigantic B12 thread-Texas will NOT play in league with Memphis. It's a fact. Don't ask for links. There are none.

Time to face reality. If TX is forced to leave B12-they have B10 or Pac12 to choose from-the league will be disintegrated into parts by $EC, B10, and ACC. Anyone left standing will try to hook up with a few AAC teams.

Most who cover CFB believe this is how it will go down. Stuke obviously did not want to put that in article.

I hope tiger87 calls you out come June

Plenty think we have no shot. That's fine. I'm not calling out any of them. I have no idea whether we're in or not. I certainly hope we are, but will not be surprised if we aren't.

It's your constant ridiculing of anyone who wants to post on the topic that is worthy of getting called out. You feebly try (fail) to mock anyone who posts anything positive about us and the B12. It's just lame.

Such anger. I'm sorry your buddy Stam got banned

Actually no anger at all. The only emotional reaction you stir from me is laughing. I know a few people here - "Stam" is not one, BTW - and we openly laugh because you try so hard to connect dots. Then end up on the wrong page.

I think Calkins has been a huge promoter of our school for a long time. Even when he wrote negative stuff about RC it was because he thought the school deserved better and he believed RC was actually harming the school.

Agreed - my take is that Calkins has made his home here and wants to write about a top-tier program. He wants what's best for the city, too. This is home, and he wants to see a successful University - same as when he promoted what the FedEx Forum would mean/could mean to this community. And he was absolutely right on that one!

Still seems like it comes down to Cinci & Memphis as #1 & #2 choice.
